Angakok by David Alan Morrison
3 Stars

Angakok by David Alan Morrison was a first read by this author for me. This book is not in my normal genres of reads but it was still interesting. This book deals with LGBT and also in the paranormal as well.
I will preface by saying I was very lost for some time as so much was happening between flashbacks, many extra characters and just all around balance of what was happening. It did pick up some the more you got into the story.
Dane and Victoria are involved in a car accident and both die. Dane is only dead for moments but is plagued by dreams of being in someone else's body killing random people. When a mystic finds the reasoning behind what is going on and the connection between Dane and Victoria, the must make a plan of how to stop her as Danes partner is next on her list.
I just felt I didn't connect well to the story but it was well written, an interesting storyline and just all around a good read if you're a paranormal fan.

This book is about Dane and Jake, with quite a few background characters added in. I did give it 4 stars because Angakok does start off with a lot of stuff happening. It can get really hard to follow.
Dane was involved in a horrific accident that has left him a shell even after a year.
Jake, Dane’s partner, is very aware what the accident has taken because he has been there every step of the way.
Jake is Dane’s partner. Their lives have not been the same since. Dane has pretty much closed himself off. Jake has about enough of all of it. Jake is so ready to pack up and head back to the country.
April, she goes by many names, is somehow connected to Dane. She possesses a body and starts drama. It's all to please her and amuse her. All she wants to do is carry out her revenge. Does she have a connection to Jake? Why do they all have a dramatic reaction to her? Will Dane every be able.to uncover all the mystery after his accident?
All the stuff going on is so very important to the plot and what's going on in the book. It is a lot of information sometimes but it is a really good book. I liked this book because it was a different genre And a different writing style then what i'm used to. I'm not a fan for life.

Book Review Angakok
Author David Alan Morrison
Four Stars
David Alan Morrison is a really good author and his plot was well intentioned. Yet I was lost from the beginning. There are more characters in this book than truely need to be and it was very confusing and hard to keep track of. The flash back into past lives and the trying to figure out who was who in those past lives and why there were conflicts. It just got to be too much and it was a real struggle for me to get through.
There are several of todays issues in this book though. LGBT is a big part of this as well as one of the characters is suffering from PTSD. The author seems to put a LOT of emphasis on the fact that Mrs. Jeremy is fat, which yes is a description we needed to understand her slow moving yet it isnt something that needed to be thrown out there through out the book.
David Alan Morrison is a very creative writer and his imagination went rampant in this book. If you have a time to sit and involve yourself in a book that has more flashbacks than it seems real action then this book is for you. If you arent opposed to multiple personalities and trying to keep them all straight then you will love this book.

David Alan Morrison either has way too many characters running around in his head or he has no clue how to write a book. I’m going with too many characters in his head because the storyline is very interesting. Angakok is a story with many of those characters. A few of the characters will make you wonder why they are even in the story at all and I have to admit at times I was a little confused.
This story is about past lives and revenge and having an open mind about all things. So I kept my mind open and found this story pretty good. While this type of story isn’t my usual cup of tea it certainly held my interest and I do recommend it to others, especially those who like a little mystery with some adventure.

I was going to give this story three stars about half way through but luckily I like to finish a story before giving a review. So by the time I was finished reading I knew that four stars were well deserved.

David Alan Morrison gives his characters personalities all their own. Mrs. Jeremy made me laugh even when she was trying to be serious. She was so matter of fact and worldly at the same time.
“People who embrace logic tended to lose their souls without realizing that while they might survive with half a brain, they’d die without a dream.”

This story holds a lot of information about different beliefs which is where having an open mind as a reader helps.

“ANGAKOK— an Inuit term for a shaman— usually of the “third sex” or homosexual, who holds the power to access the sacred mysteries of life ; one who can travel to other planes of existence to retrieve information to save innocents from harm.”

I am looking forward to reading more by David Alan Morrison.

Angakok starts off with a lot happening, which is really hard to get your head around so soon into a book. The story revolves around Dane and Jake, with many more characters thrown into the mix.
Dane is involved in an horrific accident, and as a result sustained extensive injuries, and still, 1 year late, he is having nightmares, suffers from insomnia and is a mere shell of his former self.
Jake is Dane’s partner. He is aware of the toll the accident has taken on Dane, because he has been there with him every step of the way. Their lives have not been the same since, with Dane almost completely closing himself off from Jake. Intimacy was non existent, and Jake has just about had enough. He cannot help Dane if he won’t let him back in. So Jake is ready to pack up and head back to the country. He never has liked the city, choosing to be there only to invest in property and make enough money to retire early.
April/Victoria/Lily/Christian, to name a few, is somehow connected to Dane and his accident. She/He/It is bad news. A female version of Robert, from Guild of Immortal Women. She somehow hijacks a woman’s body, which seems to carry throughout the book with her hijacking multiple bodies. This allows her to wreak havoc and carry out her nasty revenge. All the drama she creates delights and amuses her. She also seems to have a connection to Jake, continuously referring to him as the dark haired one . I think it is safe to say that every single character is linked to April/Victoria/Lily. They all have pretty dramatic reactions when they spot her.
Mrs Jeremy is trying to help Dane uncover all the mystery surrounding his accident and the events that keep happening after. He does end up solving the mystery, I think. A lot happens in this book. There are so many characters that all relate back to the main characters. It has so, so much going on all at once, it will make the reader’s head spin. I never imagined I would like a book that was written the way Angakok is, but not only did I like it, I really enjoyed it. I am still not sure exactly why I enjoyed it, but I just did. Maybe because it is different. Not the usual read for me. But I love discovering new authors and their writing styles. The challenge of trying to make sense of the plot, and to try to foresee the ending, is incredible.
Dane ended up working out how everyone was connected and it ends with him and Jake together and alive. Having reached the end, I am still as confused as when I started. But the crazy thing is that I still really liked it. Half of the time I had no clue what exactly was going on, but that did not take away my enjoyment of this story.
Angakok is a big mystery, with action aplenty and a whole lot to keep the reader busy. This book does not lack in suspense, surprise and a little humour. Another great read by David Alan Morrison.
