So freaking good.
Maximo is the best kind of mafia man. The kind who loves full force, to obsession. Who controls, lovingly, with an iron fist. Who destroys anything or anyone that threatens or hurts his woman.
Juliet is that perfect mixture of brave, strong, and innocent. She looks down death with a proudly raised chin. She’s smart and knows when to take advantage of a semi dark situation.
This was a smut-tastic good time. Plenty of action and romance thrown in to keep it moving along. I loved the banter and witty remarks that Juliet provides.
I also really like this softer side of the Daddy Dom kink. It was perfectly intertwined to make everything just that much better.
There was a pretty significant age gap. We meet the characters when Juliet is 17 and Maximo is 32, though nothing happens until Juliet is officially 18.
No age play, but some spanking, big dose of power play, and a heavy helping of ‘Daddy’ being used as an honorific.
It just made everything hotter.
I forgot how much I enjoy Layla Frost’s writing, but this just rekindled my excitement.
Can’t wait to read more from her.

This was a billionaire romance done right. I tend not to enjoy them because the mmc always seems to just buy things instead of doing things. But this man was capable. I loved the power dynamic. The obvious daddy issues and the daddy kink did cross a bit too fat for me, along with the obvious grooming. However, it worked for these two characters. The spice was hot. I couldn't put it down.
This is my second book by this author, and I have to admit that I enjoy her writing style. I enjoyed the couple together and the romance between them. These two take on a DDLG relationship and I was so here for it. I live for daddy kink and Maximo wanted nothing but the best for his baby girl.
However, this book could have been shorted by the amount of filler and sex scenes we had here. I adore smut and live for the sexy scenes! However, sometimes it is just too much and that was the case here. All they did was either have sex or think about having sex. Their relationship wasn’t really based on anything else.
Along with that, the drama and suspense behind who was after Juliet seemed to be second thought. It was occasionally talked about throughout the book and then was rushly put towards the end. There was no buildup to it.
All in all, it wasn’t terrible but it also wasn’t something memorable for me. I did like the DDLG relationship aspect and the chemistry between up, but everything else kind of fell short.

I really did not enjoy the age gap aspect of the book and I wish the heroine was overage when the book started. This entire plot would have worked just as well if she was in her early 20s instead of 17 at the beginning and would make the Hero a hella lot less creepy (though not entirely). I was hoping the slow burn aspect would last longer to ease up on it but the grooming still would have been strong and the fact that they literally hook up the minute she’s 18 is gross. You can have dark romance without trying to justify that shit.
Kept reading despite that but eventually lost interest. I never really felt the vibe between h and H and when the conflict stopped being about their relationship and was more focused on the side plot of “bad Vegas goons” I decided to call it.

Not for me she starts off 17 and watches her dad get shot in the head.
Gets kidnapped by his killer who is 32…. I think
He basically has naughty thoughts about her locks her in a room hires her a tutor so she can graduate, treats her like a princess (still locked in the house) blah blah blah
She turns 18 and now she’s legal he acts on it
Had to stop reading gave me the ick

This one just wasn’t for me. Hated the heroine and how naive she was. With the age gap it made this one feel a bit icky.
Too manipulative, he played with her food and I couldn't get past that
Was this a bad book? No.
The very beginning was the most exciting part. After that...it was all downhill from there. Juliet's internal monologue just wasn't interesting and it was a large part of the book. Maximo is a decent character but we only get glimpses from his perspective. I found most of the side characters more entertaining than the main characters. Apart from an event near the end of the book (vague to avoid spoilers), there is little to no conflict throughout the book. The biggest event happens at the very beginning.
If you are reading for just the smut...even that wasn't great, in my opinion. It's not bad but just like the rest of the book, it really failed to be exciting.
