If I never have to hear Hampton pronounce croissant as "Kwass-on" it will have been TOO MF SOON. I SWEAR TO GOD. IT WAS DRIVING ME INSANE....................

Whatever. Anyway. Another fun romp, potentially more fun than the last??? Only because I love the film The Lost Boys and how incredibly corny it is, so it stands to reason that I would also enjoy a novel where the baddies are a coven of really shitty asshole vampires who wear too much perfume and body glitter... LMAO. I also really enjoyed the little monsters that kept popping up?? Very cute.

TLDR: Once again, this is just a fun romp not to be taken too seriously because if you do, you will spot 34574398 faults and it's really not that worth it or that deep with a book of this caliber. I want a faceless dog and well monster. I think.

I love these characters and can’t get enough. I found the first book to be a little slow, but hung in because of the character development and it totally paid out in this one. The premise is of course a little silly and the “found family” bit is a bit heavy handed, but for what they are, they are well done.

About: Ghosts are haunting Paris. Some missing legs, others – arms. Some are even missing their heads. But then, there’s those catacombs down below, so no surprise, you’d say. And yet, why now? Answer, apparently, is classic and simple: there’s a coven of vampires down below, making a nest. Even ghouls moved out, be it due to arguments with new tenants, or too loud music. And from there, thus, they spread their reign of terror over Paris, killing, turning the most beautiful, kidnapping. Nobody cared all that much, still, up until they kidnapped the wrong gal. They kidnapped Greta Helsing. Because, you see, their leader has an unsettled score with her friend, vampire Ruthven, and very much believes he’s in the rights and powers to destroy the offending creature. Greta, thus, is bait. If she survives, of course…

Mine: Both books start a bit slow, but you just have to let them pick up the pace. Once it does, just pay attention for there’s claws, fangs, magic, reality alteration, as the badass vampires kick ass and take names. It feels like you read, and read, and read these vampire books, romances, fantasy books. And then you read these, and realize those really sucked. I’m happy with the series. Thanks for recommending them to be, B! The only thing I want more of is the science.

I just checked goodreads, and apparently we’re getting third one on August 20th, so there’s plenty of time for everyone to catch up, and you really should if you like classical vampires have adventures in modern world. 5 out of 5 from me.

A fun and heart filled fantasy mystery with such empathetic character and plot details. This is what cozy fantasy literature should be.

Fabulous. I love the way the author describes things. It has such depth and feeling. I really loved this book and thought it was far superior to the first. If I could give it 6 * I would!

Thorougly enjoying this series - in fact, immediately went and got book three and started reading it. Again you have the excellent Greta Helsing getting herself into and out of (by herself, without any need to be rescued, thankyouverymuch) interesting predicaments. Most of the action takes place in Paris, and has a few interesting homages to Phantom of the Opera that I very much enjoyed. Edward Ruthven and Sir Francis Varney are again involved in the action, along with some new characters - the werewolf sort of in charge of Paris, the demon sort of in charge of Paris (both of them a bit lax at the moment), a variety of vampires, ghosts, small furry and squelchy monsters, and surprise visits from one or two old friends. And a pair of remedial psychopomps that you'll just have to read about for yourselves. What are you waiting for?

I was a bit worried that there was no real way to carry forward from the original story in this series, but this one does a good job. I recommend the audio version - excellent narration.
