I would always pick up a book from the Famous Five series when we went to our weekly library visit when I was a kid. I just adored the series as a child.
For this year I’ve decided to do a re-read of some of my old favorites, starting with the first book of that series.
I was surprised that I didn’t remember the plot of this book at all because I do remember this book cover especially and some of the illustrations I also remember tracing as a child lol.
The story itself is nicely written but straightforward, I can still see how child-me was absolutely in love with these books (I really wanted an adventuring group of my own back than but the only one who I roped into exploring things was my brother, who dutifully followed me through woods and abandoned places). This book is very much a testament to its time though, when it comes to the depiction of gender roles and ideals
The Famous Five books were favourites of mine growing up. I read this with my 6 (almost 7) year old and she loved it too. Lots of adventure and mystery and even a good conversation about gender identity. Can't wait to start the next one.
Read Blyton books as a teenager and I throughly enjoyed them. I think I especially enjoyed the mystery and relationships of the characters.

Obvious issues, but really enjoyed the pacing. And the nostalgia!
Taking a break from adult drama. This book gave me strong childhood nostalgia.
The Famous Five were my favorite adventurers as a child. Absolutely loved their books and the first one was one of their best.
George är min hjälte. Jag vill ha mer av honom. Och snälla, låt Dick byta sitt namn. Stackars barn.
