I started reading The Famous five series as a child but never read them in order or all of them. This first book was one of the ones I haven't read, but have read in a comic version that was produced at some point.

I now have my own 2 children and with my daughter been 9 I decided it was my chance to read the series in full while at the same time encouraging her reading to improve, so a shopping trip was in order. We bought the first 2 books which she started reading straight away. After she fell asleep I retrieved the first book and started my reading. I have to say my reading must have sped up a huge amount as I'm sure it took me longer all them years back.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the introduction to the four children and Timmy the Dog and I'm waiting for my daughter to catch up now so we can get the 3rd book for me to move on to since I've almost read the 2nd too. They are still as enjoyable now as they were then, and it's lovely to be able to enjoy them and talk about them with my own daughter as I did with my mum (who is also waiting to start reading book 1). My next task is to get my 6 year old son involved since he's doing so well with reading now.

One of my favourite series to read when I was a child.

4.5/5
I read so much Enid Blyton as a child, that when my cousin wanted to do a book swap (he's reading The Ice Monster at the moment) I immediately said yes. And I'm *so* glad I did! I forgot how much I loved this book, the characters, Blyton's way with words, her vivid descriptions. I felt as though I could escape from annoying, often boring, adult life for 183 pages, and it. was. great. Will I be re-reading the rest? Damn right I will!

Một câu chuyện cực kì hấp dẫn! Mặc dù là câu chuyện phiêu lưu của thiếu nhi nhưng vẫn không khiến người lớn bị cuốn hút vào!

Enid Blyton never fails to make me dearly wish to be part of her books

I love revisiting this book

The most concise and fun adventures are found within the pages of this series, each book around 200 pages. These books leave you refreshed and satisfied with beautiful countryside imagery, delicious food and marvelous exploits.

“The best way to treat obstacles is to use them as stepping-stones. Laugh at them, tread on them, and let them lead you to something better.”

The first 7 books in this series were given to me on my 9th birthday I believe? I found them so immersive and the characters so loveable (even though I still think Anne was underdeveloped).
