A quick fast-paced action read, but I had issues with the lack of explanations for many of the character's magical powers.

* What the heck is a "higher power"? Are there different tiers of magical powers?

* The book seems to solely revolve around the assassins. Are there no normal people they have to interact with at any point? At most, they get a mention when Alexa and the men are figuring which abandoned place to co-opt for their home base. Is this a normal urban society with the Lifeless League plopped in as an addition? What kind of people hire these assassins? How do they work with normal governmental agencies or are they just never caught?

Spoiler* It's unclear how the heck Alexa suddenly managed to start sucking powers from other people. The ending implies that she was a bred specimen and there was something to do with her deceased mother, but it makes you wonder how she didn't manage to figure this out sooner. She's been an assassin for Armond for 10ish years at this point??

* It was also very unclear how Armond's magic power worked. Was he like a life vampire sucking out years from others and adding it to his own life?? How come he was able to tattoo others with a magical power? But who knows, he's dead now.

Jameson and Mouse/Mason were my favorite characters, but hopefully Tylin and Rory become less of assholes in the coming books. Regardless of the plot issues, it was still a fun read and kept my attention.

Alexa has a new mark, four of them, but nothing goes to plan. After not killing Tylin, Alexa starts to rethink everything she has ever known about her job and the man in charge, Armond. There are so many secrets being kept from Alexa that she can't trust anyone. I love that each of the four men offer her something different. Mouse is by far my favorite. He is quiet and sweet and the first one to really try and understand alexa. I cannot wait to see what happens next after that ending.

a horrible assassin

I like her power but she isn’t a bad a** at all. Overall this book isn’t very good. It’s flawed and doesn’t make sense.
How does the best assassin get bested? Like every time. She is literally average at best. Like she tried to be a double agent. Fail. Fight the 4 assassins. Fail. Not taking a drink from someone you don’t know. Fail.
The authors tried to justify no one knowing the ex assassins by stating they were erased from the system but wouldn’t people remember who they were? Like no one knew them except themselves when they had meetings and training?
Why would Armond send an assassin after Alexa the same night she didn’t complete her mission?
The guys are mid twenties at most? How long have they been out the game? If Armond is her father figure, why would she switch sides immediately? Like literally she switched teams on page 19 and she was honestly thinking about switching sides at page 5.
The guys have been using her but she’s been using them too? For what? She’s gotten nothing out of the situation. I also don’t understand why she’s trying so hard to be apart of the team when she’s the “asset”.
The attraction between her and the guys is there from the beginning. But we’re getting into things within 24 hours. She literally doesn’t have a single thought about the men without wandering into her attraction to them. The chemistry is there but the spice is not.

Some misspellings. Missed words. Misuse of words.

Not your average RH

Alexa Hart is a skilled assassin. Her life is solitary. Until she is assigned 4 targets.
She is a bada.s.s. Until she gets involved with her targets. Then everything she knows is flipped on its head.
I really enjoyed the fact that she has to work her butt off to become a part of their team.
This book was written very well. It wasn't all fated. I felt it could've been longer. There are gaps of some character development, but I loved it overall. Can't wait for the next one to be released.
There are many unanswered questions. Like who is going to fall for Alexa next? Rory or Ty?
How are they going to face off with the leader and the higher power? Will it end in heartache or HEA?

This was a fast book. I liked it a lot and thought it was a very different way to go about with their line of work. The guys are all jerks sometimes though especially Rory.

Simple story, quick read

This one is a super fast story without a lot of extra detail. The characters are your standard RH trope characters. The guys are interesting and there is some good banter. I’ll read the next one in the series, but I also don’t find myself so absorbed that I have to drop everything and read it right now.

I enjoyed this first installment of The Huntress series. The ending wasn't really a cliffhanger but there is a story arc that appears will carry throughout the series.
