This reminded me a bit of Ali Smith's How to be both, and Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber. Interesting and fantastical with loveable characters trying to escape the constraints of history, gender, time, and even reality. I enjoyed this more than Jeanette Winterson's The Passion.

Definitely not my favorite from Winterson. There were some good sections but overall I had trouble getting into this one.

Sexing the Cherry (1989) by Jeanette Winterson is about a giant woman and her son she finds by the river traveling through modes of time and finding the stories in between the stories they’ve lived through. Quite a metaphysical read mixed with magical realism and prose poetry, I have never read such exquisite language before! Highly recommended.

This took me some concentration to get into, but once I'd accustomed to the slippery ideas of place and time I devoured every sentence. Jeanette Winterson is an absolute marvel, her command of language is astonishing. Every sentence is pure poetry, even as she's describing a giant woman biting a man's penis clean off. This was fun, imaginative, and captivating. I'm sure when I re read this it will only get better. ily Jeanette !
