Nothing in this story came as much of a shock, I could see most of the plot twists coming from a mile away. I did really enjoy Hani and Seokgas romance though. Hani, she’s a queen and her relationship and falling out with Somi was quite the compelling aspect of the story. Even though I did find myself wondering why Somi meant so much for her to being the events of this book and give her human livers. Somi was called a coworker until the very end of the story, not even a friend. Seems like a lot for Hani to risk with her impulsive decision to give Somi livers. Seokga? ngl i found him kinda lame. Did i like his romance with Hani? yes. Did I like the sort of enemies to lovers grumpy x sunshine vibes? yes. But for some reason I just found Seokgas past and story boring. like i feel like we went over it in the story but maybe I just zoned out. Was the reason Seokga attempted his coup really because he had a bit of an inferiority complex and his brother is a narcissistic asshole? so he just half assed a coup? and then after failing, he gets his godly powers taken away and basically falls off of the heavenly realm and down to the mortal world and gains a limp due to the fall, he has the nerve to act like a high and mighty asshole and seemingly has no shame about the whole situation for most of the book. Like his character just makes no sense. anyways for some reason i made it to the 75% mark and just lost all interest in finishing this book and had to take a break before continuing.

Silly goofy book. I love having a mischievous 1 and a supposed to be mischievous (becomes mischevious) 2. It is completely unfortunate that I like them more when they are at odds with one another then when they are together. It has a very irreverant tone that makes it quite fun to read and got me through quite a few cliches. Sucked me in, just had to ignore some of the dialogue (I cringed at parts). I enjoyed parts of the mystery.
I like Somi and Hyuntae, it was an absolute shame with the demon taking over her body. They would have been so cute without a lot of this happening.

Positive
Positive
- Character dynamics and dialogue between the main leads.
There was a lot of color to the author's writing that made the characters more vibrant and entertaining to read. I felt like their dynamic and their banter was always fun to read. Seokga, my beloved <3 - Mystery of the plot.
I really like the investigative aspect of the story, and yeah, the plot twist at the end with Eodun really got me, which is what I like to see.
Neutral
- Hani, at times, felt a little careless.
You'd think she'd be more careful with... killing people in the open - but I guess maybe that's how her original reputation was built. It can feel a bit much at times, but I can chalk it up to her character being essentially a "legend" and never having to care about making a mess in the past. - Romantic trope usage.
It's a romance book, I've just accepted their existence. The one-bed trope was a little heavy-handed, but ya know, they needed their cuddles lol.
Negative
- The steamy scenes/romantic build-up.
I get that physical attraction is inevitably going to be part of an enemies-to-lovers book, but sometimes it's written a bit too intensely, which I felt in some parts of the book. I wanted to love their romance wholeheartedly, but wow, it wasn't always necessary.

Cosy and beautifully described. Slow burn closed door, took me a while to get into it but found it very satisfying at the end

Okay, firstly - why didn’t I finish this in March?! Secondly - WOW I very much enjoyed this one and can’t wait to read the sequel!
This was so fun and engaging. I loved how Sophie Kim incorporated Korean mythology and folklore into the story. I loved the banter between Seokga and Hani, Seokga’s obsession with coffee, and Hani’s obsession with human food 🤣
For a story set in 1992, there were several modern references that don’t fit the timeline. Cell phones were not at all portable at that time and while yoga leggings may have been a thing, they definitely weren’t called that. This definitely detracted from the story for me, I couldn’t stop fixating on them! It also felt like Seokga and Hani went from hating each other to loving each other super fast. However, Hani’s redemption and that epilogue really clinched this as a new favorite for me.
