At this point in the series, it feels like Groundhog Day. Recycled plots with the same old characters. The main plot point is a serial killer leaving bodies at the bonds office. After having read as many of these books as I have, I knew very early on who the killer was, with absolutely no clues available to the reader. If you’ve never read Stephanie Plum, I would recommend #1, #2, #9, or #12. (Two for the Dough was especially funny.) Unless you are on a mission to finish the series like me, I would skip Smokin’ Seventeen. The humor is gone, the situations are bordering on the ridiculous, and without any real clues, the mystery is not fun for the armchair detective to try and solve.

Plot or Character Driven: Character

I would like to give it a 3 1/2... but it kept my interest pretty much.

I love Stephanie Plum and this was one of the better recent episodes in her haphazard journey!

Fun read as always but not my favorite. I think she is churning them out and they aren't as great. This one was pretty predictable on the murder mystery part and I really disliked the bouncing from man to man, in the previous books she was torn between Morelli and Ranger, but she didn't bounce from bed to bed right after each other. I think she needs to make a choice. She is burning bridges with Ranger who would be great to have as protector/friend but she needs to nix the "benefits" part. This one left me with more of a cliffhanger feeling for the next one which generally they stand on their own and don't really leave me wanting more.

I do love this series but, the back and forth with Morelli and Ranger is getting a little old. Its making these two very alpha males seem SO vagina whipped it's getting sad. Other than that... The situations Stephanie and her group of misfits get into are hilarious.

I took a little break from this series because I was getting annoyed with parts of it. I think that was a good idea. When I came back to it, I enjoyed it more. Joe's grandmother is always an interesting character to have in the stories. I love that people are so scared of her and "the eye." The senior citizen vampire made me laugh probably more than it should have. I still think that Stephanie should be getting better at the bounty hunter gig and she really needs to decide between Ranger and Joe, though neither of them seems to be pushing to have a decision made. I will say that I figured out the twist before Stephanie did, which I always enjoy.

"Working at Rangeman is a high-stress job, and you're one of our few sources of comic relief. I give you a car and my men start a pool on how long it will take you to trash it. You're a line item in my budget under entertainment." ~Ranger.

As always, I loved this book. I lost count how many times I was laughing so hard that I had tears in my eyes. I highly recommend this series to everyone. They are light, fluffy and funny reads.

My question for you: Who would you choose? Ranger or Morelli?

I think this was a definite improvement over the last two, but I'm getting tired of being dangled along on the Ranger vs. Morelli business.
