Now with more plot-like elements than the previous 3 or 4 books in the series!

I have certaintly enjoyed this one better than the last. After Mistral's Kiss I wasn't sure I wanted to continue with this series. I'm glad I read this book and look forward to the others in this series. The ending in this book was bittersweet. I can't wait to start reading Swallowing Darkness.

I can't even come up with a creative way of writing these reviews any more.

I love the characters, I do. Darkness, Frost, Merry, all of Merry's men. Even the Queen. I just don't like them together, ALL THE TIME .

Merry is still trying to change the Unseelie to Seelie. I completely see the Queen's point. It's a dark court FOR A REASON.

Though this book is familiar for the series while also treading new, intense ground for the overall series arc, I think I’m getting into a reading slump, because this series is no longer holding as much spark for me.

I still find the intimate character moments and the fey lore to be the best parts of the series, but the beginning felt very slow and it has taken a long time to feel like a true, genuine threat to Merry. The stakes have finally been raised and there have been consequences. Most of the dialogue is still very strong as well, so the words always have impact and meaning.

Maybe I’m just unfocused, but much of the plot seemed to meander and happen almost at random. I enjoy the magical elements, but they are beginning to feel like deus ex machinas.

I will give the next book a chance, but I feel I’m losing more steam. Still recommended for fans of fey romance and spicy books.

1)I can’t believe that books 3-5 taking place over like 48 hours paid off like this.
2) DYING to see how twins having six dads gets further explained and what combination that happened in.

I was really reluctant to read the Meredith Gentry books originally. I was so in love with the Anita Blake series that I just didn't want to read the other series for fear that it would be too Science Fictiony or *gulp* bad.

Now I am hooked and the only book I have kept of the Laurell K Hamilton books is this one. I sold all my other ones. So I guess that speaks of my enjoyment of this series.

And yes - I agree with the other reviewers that this book stood out and was right up there with the first book. I liked the books in the middle - but I too thought it was a bit much. Meaning - For all that action and intrigue to happen in ONE DAY was insane. But only when you stood back and said - this all happened in one day - INSANE. When you were reading it you didn't feel that. Or rather - I did not.

Anywho - Read the Merry Gentry series. Don't be afraid. They won't bite.

This was a great addition to the Merry Gentry series. I lot of court politics going on, but a good progression of the storyline too. We also discover some interesting backstory about Frost. I was debating between giving it 4 or 5 stars, I finally decided to go with 5!
