Very good!

This was a very good story, very different and I really enjoyed it. It's a whirlwind that's how I would describe it.

It looks like i might be in the minority or possibly alone in this but i could not really get into this book. I don't know what it is about the story, but i reckon i'll give it another try sometime soon.

Ehhhh...uhhhh...I was going back and forth between rating this book 3-4 stars. 4 stars because the sex scenes were steamy! 3 because...really!?

I have read a few other books by this author, and love love loooooved them. I kind of went in to this book "blind." Sure - I read what it was about, and had some of an idea what the premise of the story was, but some of the scenes were just ridiculous, and I laughed at the blatant hilarity of it.
Spoiler Like when Shayda gets "caught" having an affair...and her husband gets hit by a car. Really? What's next? An airplane falling out of the sky?

With that being said, I did enjoy this book. The relationship between Shayda and Troy is nothing short of beautiful. I really liked that Shayda's maturity was highlighted throughout the book, and that she was "human" enough to feel pain and jealousy, but also mature enough to understand her feelings were not justified because of their situation.

I rated this book 4 stars mainly because of the relationship between Shayda and Troy, and how it had progressed. I do think a lot of the "middle pieces" could have been cut out. There was A LOT of "back and forth" between the two relationships, and I know that was the main premise of the book, but I did start skimming through parts when I felt as if I was getting yo-yo'd. Overall it was a good book. Not one of my favorites, but it was good enough to finish!

Imagine reading a book called 53 Letters for My Lover and getting to the end and realizing there are not any, not even one love letter throughout the whole book!!!!
There were moments when I really loved this story and felt the connection between Shayda and Troy, and then there were times when I didn't see what the attraction was because they were both so different. I will never condone cheating, and when children are involved it's even worse, but I could appreciate the authors attempt at digging into the reasons one would pursue an affair and risk everything. I felt sorry for Hafez, I saw him as man doing what needed to be done to support his family and didn't feel that he would ever betray Shayda. I enjoyed learning about the culture and the traditions that they were so proud of but also the not so great ones where a woman is valued as less than a man. I'm hoping the next book will have some love letters because I bet they would be amazing

I really enjoyed this book, and the blurb is definitely correct when it says that it is not your typical love story. The characters were dynamic and interesting. They make you question morality and the nature of love. I was captivated all the way through, but the ending was a complete cop out. The male lead did an outlandish, out of character thing so we could have a "big misunderstanding" plotline/climax. It left a sour taste in my mouth and coupled with the cheesiness that was piled on in the last chapter, I just couldn't give this five stars.

But I loved most of it and I will most definitely read more from Leylah Attar.

I was so frustrated with this book. Every time I started to enjoy it something happened that made me want throw this book against a wall. It took me a long time to get into the book. For me the start was a mess. I also hate when a book makes me calculate how much time is between chapters. My memory is like 3 seconds, I have no idea what date or year the last chapter was. Has 1 day passed? A week? Month? Years??? No clue.

The saving grace was banter between Troy an Shayda. Loved them together

I was between 2-4 stars for this so it will be a 3.

Heartbreakingly beautiful.
I know a lot of people will be scared about the whole cheating trope in this book but once you start reading you will understand. I don’t like the cheating trope either, but it was well done in this one i promise!
And i don’t have the right words to describe how much Shayda and Troy’s love means to me. It’s just stunningly beautiful and i instantly cry whenever i think about them.❤️

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is review a book that completely blew your mind.
This may be the most chaotic review yet for a book I truly love and one I will remember for many years to come.

I should start by saying Leylah Attar is a new to me author, I saw her mentioned a few times on Bookstagram but when I saw the cover for 53 Letters for My Lover- I was all in. A hasty (adding to TBR) promise to my friend The Romantic Baker and a few hours later an impromptu buddy read- and just over a day- I was completely spellbound. (Let out that into perspective- I’m a slow AF reader)
The fluidity of Leylah Attar’s writing is had me hooked. It was near impossible to stop, I wanted to savour every word and consume it in its entirety all at once. There’s friendship, family drama, a deep-set cultural transition, so much passion, chemistry, angst, and so much heartbreak— I cried some big fat tears.
I was completely owned by the characters in this story- my heart was filled with so much love for Shayda, I was (and still am) completely in love with Troy, and my heart wept for Hafiz.

<< There is nothing to hide anymore. When love looks at you, when it truly pins you down and stares into your soul, it renders you defenseless. And in that moment, in that state of humbling nakedness, it makes you completely invincible.>>

The dynamics of this story was one akin to the metamorphosis of a butterfly- And our heroine went through unimaginable hardships and struggles, but her growth, though painful, was remarkable and beautiful. To see her discover herself and how self-assured she was— a favourite heroine.
And Troy, oh my heart!! This man!! This freaking blued eyed man!! He’s a god among men, the kind of book boyfriend you will want to marry IRL.

SWOON. SWOON. FREAKING SWOON

If ever you believed in soulmates or the kind of love that was meant to be THIS IS IT.
This story was heartbreakingly beautiful and one that will stay with me for years to come.

* This was mostly a blind read, the author mentions trigger warnings (there are mentions of sexual assault) and that this book was Women’s Fiction meet Romance… THIS BOOK IS IN A LEAGUE OF ITS OWN!!

Five “Beetroot Butterfly♥Scary Cherry” Stars

This book was absolutely beautiful as it was emotionally draining.

I pulled a Shayda with this book and I shut it down from time to time but just like Troy Heathgate he was there for me with all the love of the world.

When love is meant to be IS MEANT TO BE.
