Much more suspense/mystery than action/thriller. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did! I did often get mad at the main character, but I guess I'll give her a pass for the, y'know, slasher-movie trauma. The plot twists were well set up/thought out, and kept me guessing till the very end. I liked the subversion of movie tropes, plus the writing was very satisfying. Great nonlinear storytelling. A good all-in-an-afternoon read.  I guess I don't have the patience for too much mystery, though, as sometimes I just wished we could get to the next thing.

ACAB btw

Wow oh wow....does this human ever know how to write addicting books. I've read two so far and both had me hooked. I loved that I thought I knew what was happening but most certainly did not. Definitely worth a read!

I really wanted to enjoy this book - I love a cheesy horror movie with slasher elements and figured this would also delve into how that intersects with how we consumer true crime and survivor stories.

I kept waiting and waiting for more exciting moments to happen in this book but the beginning really dragged, the middle felt like it was headed somewhere, but then ultimately the ending was disappointing and overly reliant on tropes and cheesy lines.

Additionally, there wasn’t really any discussion or thought put into the discussion of true crime, survivor stories, and how the media shapes how we view these events.

The whole book felt like an unfortunate missed opportunity.

This wasn’t my favorite of Sager’s books, but I did like it. I definitely didn’t see the twists coming.

as someone who loves mysteries & thriller, this book didn’t really give me a “wow” effect but it was a nice fast-paced read.  one of the twists that actually caught me off guard was the revelation where sam was in fact tina stone pretending to be samantha boyd. this book was a page turner because i truly wanted to know who actually did the killings. i was all hyped to get to the end for the final revelation, the true killer. however, that last “twist” — although i admit that i didn’t see it coming — wasn’t really a “holy crap” moment for me. i guess it’s because i expected something crazier and more. coop’s reasoning on the killings felt kinda out of nowhere, suddenly it was like “yea im actually sick and i like to kill people”. there were no subtle hints in the book about his “sickness” (i know he said he tried to control himself but still there should be at least be a slight hint ya know…). we didn’t get much of him in the book but suddenly he’s this and that kind of person and the end. also, off topic, coop reminds me of joe from “you” lmao (iykyk)
