Fun Medieval murder mystery. The interesting part is how Brother Cadfael determines the murderer.

Ellis Peters’ Brother Cadfael historical mystery series has been on my TBR list for a long while and “A Morbid Taste for Bones,” the first book, is a great beginning. Set in the 12th century, Welsh-born Brother Cadfael is a monk and an excellent detective, serving with his brothers at the Abbey in Shrewsbury, England. Cadfael is a late comer to the monastic life and has had quite a colorful life, which adds so much to his character. I actually found all the characters to be highly believable and the story is full of humor, sarcasm, and a little irreverence!

I love Brother Cadfael (pronounced cat-phile, but I don’t mind that they mispronounce it in the audiobook). What a well-rounded character! He is in turn a match maker, a mystery solver, a deeply religious man, and also very down to earth. He relates to real people. So glad there is a whole series!

An historical mystery rich with religion, superstition and 12th century daily life. I enjoyed it, although I felt that the character of Brother Cadfael wasn't as deeply developed as some of the other characters, with him being the narrator.
