Istorija dėstoma lėtai, su daugybe aprašymų ir filosofavimų. Pati istorija įdomi, tik stilius man buvo per lėtas, per detalus, netgi kiek per fanatiškas (daug šnekama pie tikėjimą), bet, mano nuomone, puikiai atspindėjo aprašomo laikotarpio dvasią.

it's the only book that ive read twice. it helps me to look at things differently and analyze my actions and my attitude towards other people. recommend it.
An interesting tale nominally about the spread of Christianity in Rome, but primarily focused on the trials of one couple under the persecutions Nero ordered during his reign. Good, but the author's Catholic roots shine through in the second half.
Męczyłam się przez całą książkę, ale jestem dumna, że ją skończyłam. Gdyby nie to, że jest na egzaminie to bym ją sobie odpuściła.
Nie polubiłam się ze stylem Sienkiewicza, więc tym ciężej było mi czytać. Bardzo irytowało mnie przedmiotowe traktowanie kobiet i romantyzowanie relacji Winicjusza i Ligii. Ja na miejscu Ligii spadałabym gdzie pieprz rośnie po sposobach Winicjusza na "zdobycie jej serca".
Totalnie nie interesuje mnie tematyka, więc tym bardziej przyjemności nie sprawiło mi zapoznawanie się z tą historią. Ale dobrze mieć to już na sobą.

Wow...butuh waktu setahun lebih bagi saya untuk membaca habis buku ini. Sempat ditinggal lama tak tersentuh karena bagian awal buku ini cukup membosankan. Apalagi dengan posesifnya Vinicius pada Lygia yang memilih untuk menjadi seorang Kristen.
Sementara itu Caesar yang ingin melihat kota Roma terbakar, membuat salah seorang bawahan Nero membakar kota itu dan menuduh orang Kristen yang melakukannya. Dimulailah pembantaian terhadap umat Tuhan itu, dan membuat Rasul Petrus hampir putus asa.
Novel fiksi ini hampir terasa nyata, membacanya akan membuka mata kita terhadap sejarah besar dalam perjalanan umat Kristen mula-mula. Jika dikaitkan dengan pergumulan kaum minoritas sekarang ini, yah... mungkin tidak akan sebanding dengan berdarah-darahnya umat Tuhan di waktu itu. Hanya saja, ketika ada pertanyaan di dalam hati "Quo Vadis, Domine?", satu hal yang perlu diingat bahwa Dia tidak kemana-mana.

I wish I could give this 3-1/2 stars. I liked the story, and the author obviously had studied Nero's Rome and knew his stuff, but I almost gave up in the first chapter with all the Latin being thrown around. I was really lost initially, and felt like I needed to already be completely familiar with the setting before I could even read this story.
Once I got used to the style, it was a bit easier to get lost in the story. Tho occasionally the author would get bogged down in describing the setting a bit too much.
