If this is your sort of book you'll enjoy it but I think I was a bit old and it didn't click with me. Still, I thought the divorced parents was nicely handled and I really liked John's character.
Warnings: None, really. Bit 'o kissing and one reference to sex but nothing much.

Sometimes Brooke just knows things, partly thanks to her excellent memory. But sometimes she just knows for reasons that have nothing to do with that.

That's the way it is with Scott Abrams. Brooke is certain that they are meant to be together. The only problem is Scott doesn't know it yet. And also that he doesn't really know Brooke. His moving away to New York City the summer before senior year doesn't really help either.

It's risky and kind of crazy, but Brooke knows that this is her chance. She can follow him, she can tell him they're meant to be together. It's her last chance. It has to work.

New York isn't what Brooke expected and neither is Scott Abrams or any of the people she meets at her new school. Brooke moved to New York City for Scott Abrams. Will she wind up staying for herself in So Much Closer (2011) by Susane Colasanti?

So Much Closer is Colasanti's fifth novel and her own personal ode to the city that never sleeps.

This is a story about a girl who pinned all of her hopes on a boy and has to figure out what to do when that boy might not be the right one. It's a story about New York City. It's a story about finding out that the things you want aren't always the best for you.

There are a lot of romances out there and a lot of books about New York City. Colasanti looks at both with fresh eyes to create a story that is as vibrant and as vivid as its setting. So Much Closer is a splendid book filled with quirky characters, an evocative story, and writing that is funny, sharp and absorbing.

So this would be the third book I’ve read by Susane Colasanti. The style is the same though I must say I really disliked certain things about the plot.

First of all, I find it extremely hard to believe that someone would move to a whole different city in her senior year just for a boy whom she had never met. I mean, maybe it wasn’t all about him but who would actually move in their senior year? Very unrealistic and unbelievable for me.

Second, her so called close friends from back home was just a big lie. How can a friendship get ruined so much? I mean, they were never real friends and in the end the main character didn’t care much. That’s not real to me. She should have been way more hurt.

Third, I hated the fact that I could relate to many things. Ok, this is not necessarily a bad thing but it made me mad because timing is everything, right?

Overall I loved my favorite characters were John and Sadie.

I give it a 6/10.

To conclude I leave you with the ending quote of the book

“One of the most amazing things that can happen is finding someone who sees everything you are and won’t let you be anything less. They see the potential of you. They see endless possibilities. And through their eyes, you start to see yourself in the same way. As someone who matters. As someone who can make a difference in this world. If you’re lucky enough to find that person, never let him go”

After reading another book by Colasanti I was not expecting too much from this one, however it did not even deliver to the standard of the first book I read. Now I know that this book is aimed at young audiences, but even so the story was not good.
The main character, Brook, is very self-centered and impulsive. So already I did not like her character and she is not a good role model for any young girls reading this story. She decides to move to New York City purely because the boy she fancies, and yet has been unable to even talk to for the last few years, has also moved there. This same boy was also the crush of one of her best friends, so should have been off limits anyway. Once Brooke moves to New York City she soon realises that she has upset one of her friends and soon upsets the other. But instead of trying to make things right with them, or in fact make any effort, she just abandons them.
Brooke leaves her Mum to live with her Dad, whom she hates just so her Mum will allow her to move to New York City. This is irresponsible for a start, but it soon becomes obvious that her Dad is incapable of being a good parent. He is always at work and therefore never at home to spend time with Brooke. He also feeds her nothing but take-aways and allows her to stay out in the city as late as she wants. This is extremely irresponsible and I feel it sets a bad impression for younger readers as they might see this as a good way to live.
There is quite a large portion of the book dedicating to adoring New York City, which clearly comes from Colasanti’s own love of living there. However, I am not a fan of cities, particularly big cities and man-made structures in general and therefore could not share in the love of ‘pretty’ water tanks etc.
I guess the outcome, or moral, of the story is that if you work hard enough and pursue your dreams they are achievable. But also that you will find love where you do not expect it, rather than the guy you have been practically stalking for years. However, this does not make the story any better.
Overall, even taking into account that this is a book for younger readers, I was not impressed with this story.
