i’ve been slowly rereading this series this year, for the first time since i originally read them in 2013 (?) and i’d pretty much forgotten everything.
the characters are so fun, the writing is so good for the older middle grade/younger teen audience and it’s also just really funny and snarky. massive plot twist at the end that i had totally forgotten about but very excited for the next one!(planning to read in the next fortnight)

The Faceless Ones / Derek Landy
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
~ I’m sophisticated, charming, suave and debonair, Professor. But I have never claimed to be civilised… ~
Well, one thing is for certain. This series NEVER gets dull. Carrying on from the events of the last book, The Faceless Ones starts strong and never lets up. It has also gotten progressively darker. And I can only imagine more darkness to come.
There is the usual banter between Skulduggery and Valkyrie, but this time out it all seems more subdued. Valkyrie is getting older, they are more accustomed to each other, the fondness grows. There are snippets though between Valkyrie and her Reflection though that make you think of the life she chose, and the one she is missing out on.
The story is this is ace. The action never lets up right until the end. The reveals were shocking. The aftermath? I gasped. Clutched. Dying to see where this goes.
China Sorrows has my heart. Valkyrie’s da has it too. And Beryl, I think she’s my favourite side character, she’s just so awful!!!
Skulduggery is still a top lad and a gentleman throughout. He’s just class.
Tanith, Fletcher, Valkyrie. Let’s see what happens in the next outing.

I was surprised at enjoying this as #2 didn't excite me
This did and I binge read it.
With minimal character development it's good the action is gripping.

Another highly enjoyable read. I love that they're starting to call Skulduggery out on how irresponsible and kind of a bad person he is. I also really like Fletcher and hope we get to see more of them! Suspenseful ending but doesn't feel too much like a cliffhanger. Excited for the next book.
