I loved it! It had great pacing and it was so cozy! I wish I had a fireplace so I could've read it in front of it.

Cozy fantasy with tea-focused world-building. I have some quibbles - a very slow start, a fair amount of sloppy-ish world-building, and for the love of God I hate first-person present-tense - but once I got into it I was absorbed.

Maybe some very minor spoilers ahead, don’t read if you’re sensitive about such things.

At first, I was really enjoying this book. I thought it was going to be a kind of fairytale retelling, which I always enjoy. However, the main character's love interest felt like a hollow character. I mean, reading law books? Boring! And when they started attending city council meetings, I was just about done. The only thing more boring than sitting through a city council meeting would be reading about people sitting through one. And honestly, gentrification? It’s not great, sure, but it’s not the horror that the author made it seem here. I know there were other things they were fighting too, which I don’t mean to trivialize. I just don’t want to read about a Princess fighting systematic racism and gentrification. So, while I found this book readable, I probably won't rush to continue the series.

This book is like a warm hug! I loved it and couldn’t read it fast enough!
It is written beautifully and flows so well.
There’s everything you could want from a fantasy - princesses, found family, a community in need, a love interest and witches to name a few!
The message of the book is great as well - be yourself and take up space!
Thank you so much to the author for the E-ARC I will be continuing the series :)

The whole world of this book is fascinating, and I have so many questions. It seems like a fantasy setting but there are trains. If a princess can remove herself from the royal family why can said family drag her back into that life? What is going on with this magic Cataclysm? Why are Tea Masters they’re own independent thing (enough so that they can negotiate treaties)? We get hints about bigger picture things, but mostly the story is focused on Mireya and her journey. I love the fact that Mireya’s friendships are really the center of the story. This is a little bit of a romance building but her friendships, especially with other women are really more focused on.

It’s a good solid cozy fantasy story with plenty to keep the reader guessing. While parts of the story were predictable, I has surprised by a number of places it when which was refreshing. There were enough unfinished plot threads that I’m champing at the bit to where the series goes in the sequels. I’d give it four out of five stars.
