*3 STARS*
With this being a book I was so looking forward to, I am a little disappointed. This wasn't awful, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. This got to be really repetitive with what happened during most of the novel being either someone purchasing something at the shop or doing their 'favor'. The ending was boring and confusing. Too many characters. But overall, an interesting and unique concept.

So good! It was giving me soap opera with all of the drama and the villain just constantly stirring the pot. Moved a bit slowly in the beginning with all of the character introductions but it was very much like sharing gossip and I loved that. I am glad I finally sat down and read this one.

I remember reading and loving this book 30-some years ago. Still holds up for me as I make my way through the Castle Rock stories.

Like the main antagonist, Leland Guant, King winds up the reader, building tension and sets us off. Once the characters start going at each other the story just flies along leading to an epic showdown.

Loved how this book brought in the lore of the previous Castle Rock stories, something I didn't pick up on my earlier read.

TW: dog violence, poor Raider.

Another thing, I don't know what's up with 90's King audiobooks, but this is another with odd sound effects and music (like Insomnia), totally unnecessary.

** spoiler alert ** This is my third Stephen King novel, the first two being The Shining and its sequel. This book was not only a horror story, but also extremely violent and gruesome. Also, note to self to check "does the dog die" prior to picking up a book... Also should check "does the parakeet die", apparently. I found the story (especially in the middle) unnecessarily long but the ending was captivating and fast paced.
