Another amazing book in this series! Loved the start of this mini trilogy of books, with the second word in the title being the ship that's important to the story! Can't wait to read more! I've almost caught up!

Jude McCoy is working the FBI's New Orleans office when a woman is found dead and it is believed to be the work of the Archangel Killer, who has murdered woman in several states. At the crime scene he spots a suspicious looking man and, with Jackson Crow, he follows this man to the cruise ship Destiny. They are sure he boarded, but the can't find him. At the same time, Alexi Cromwell who performs in the ship's piano bar, receives a warning from a man she doesn't know.

The two agents board the ship just before sailing. They go undercover, but Alexi quickly figures out who they are and why they are there. Like so many of the members of the Krewe, she sees and speaks with ghosts. She introduces Jude to all of the ship's ghosts, even enlisting their assistance.

As they race to find the killer before he can strike again, even Mother Nature seems to have turned against them and there is jeopardy everywhere.

This is a classic Heather Graham romantic suspense. I really liked both Jude and Alexi. While they have history and baggage in their life, they are not Dickensian characters weighed down by their past. It gives them depth without angst and I appreciated that. Good suspense should be enough angst for a reader.

The Haunted Destiny reunites us with Jackson Crow and a Nola agent called Jude. I have to admit that this book tugged on my heartstrings. I think Heather Graham outdid herself with the characters in this book and I believe Jude is one of the most passionate, interesting and emotionally complex heros we have had so far in this series. And the same goes for Alexi! They manage to avoid most cliches and i thoroughly enjoyed this extraordinary setting. Definitely different to previous books!

I'm not sure why I didn't buy the chemistry between the lead pair. The love scenes were nice enough, there were tidbits about their character that were nice, but in the end I just didn't care about them. Which is a problem for a romance. Mystery was okay. I was pretty sure I knew who it was, and I was right, but the red herrings were mostly interesting and decently done. Every other can't hit a home run every time. It was still a fun read, just not quite as enjoyable for me as others in the series.

This was just an OK read for me. I love this author's paranormal mysteries, but this one fell a little short for me. The setting was a haunted cruise ship. Which was fine, but I much prefer her books when they take place in New Orleans. This one didn't have the same mystique. Also, the paranormal element here, the ghosts, were actual characters that interacted with more than a few people, Which I wasn't overly crazy about.

I've also mentioned before in my reviews of this authors books, that I think her "romance" angle works best when the couple is already established (which seems to be just the novellas) Unfortunately, again with this book I felt the romance between Jude and Alexi felt forced, and mechanical, and without any passion.

All that said, I DID enjoy the mystery, and it kept me guessing with all the twits and turns and red herrings.
