A love letter to metal music dressed up as a thriller. Worth the read, but definitely not my favorite from Hendrix.

Ending was a bit underwhelming, but the writing is so good.

Definitely one of Hendrix’s more abstract stories. Follow Kris (or Deidre) as she takes the journey of her life and takes back her music.

Not going to lie, Hendrix lost me a few times but I got back on track relatively fast. I wasn’t the biggest fan of how Kris thought sometimes (it all seemed to be about her), but I really liked the bits and pieces that tied all the characters together, specifically the girl and the pit bull puppy and Bobbie.

I didn’t really know why Melanie was included at first but I loved the addition of her in the end. I wish she had ended up in Kris’s life, but I love that Melanie’s story is starting the way Kris’s did.

3.25/5 stars, rounded down to match Goodreads.

I enjoyed the gore, suspense, and drama but something about this didn't connect with me. I think if I had enjoyed the characters more, this would've drawn me in stronger than it did. This unfortunately felt lacking although I thought it did a great job at being horror.

I think there are through lines of misogyny in this book that kept me from fully enjoying it, and some things just rubbed me the wrong way with regards to Tuck (basically the only Black character). Kris, though I did like her, very much felt like a female main character written by a man.

Regardless, I did enjoy it, and I'm glad I read it. Weird and a little gross and a little silly.
