This book had everything of the first that readers came to love. If only you could skip the second and third to get to it.

3.5 stars. I read this book with my daughter after we read books 1 and 2. (#3 is technically a prequel, which we plan to read next.) I really enjoyed the series, although book 1 is my favorite of the bunch. This one is a close second. The ending was my favorite, but unfortunately it felt rushed. And the ending was the part that had my interest and curiosity the most, so I would have loved to see that expanded on. Other than that, it was a fun read!

What a thoroughly satisfying conclusion to a very solid series. I admit, I was starting to feel that the books had become a little too simple and I wasn't sure I wanted to see them out, but I'm so glad I did! This finale felt intelligent, earned, and delightful. It wrapped up nicely without being too pat, and the characters really got a chance to shine.

The danger felt real but not overly epic, the lessons learned were more organic and less pedantic, and the end left little to the imagination without wrapping up too neatly or solving all the problems with one giant swoop.

Highly recommend.

2.5 stars . . . it felt like a way to eke more out of the story, although the "diamond" and its purpose were just strong enough for me to feel like the story was worth it, however, the addition of something at the end of the book, felt like a not very well meshed way of tying it to the prophet of yonwood book.

I was sad to see the series end! I could have done with a bit longer epilogue section about their life after

Realizing that this series is truly ending makes me all sentimental. Although this series isn't my all-time favorite, I've realized that it's original, and therefore memorable.

When I read the usual teen romance series, it usually takes me a while to get into the second, third (etc.) book because I don't really remember what happened in the first book, even if I read it like a month ago. To be honest, after a while all those books blur together. For me, [b:The City of Ember|307791|The City of Ember (Book of Ember, #1)|Jeanne DuPrau|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1347778595s/307791.jpg|2285229] was different. Despite the fact that I read it some time ago, I remember what happened in it, as well as in [b:The People of Sparks|3467|The People of Sparks (Book of Ember, #2)|Jeanne DuPrau|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1320484882s/3467.jpg|2529035] and [b:The Prophet of Yonwood|207034|The Prophet of Yonwood (Book of Ember, #3)|Jeanne DuPrau|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1320636285s/207034.jpg|969]. That's what really stood out to me in this series - originality. I even got my mother to read the whole series.

Otherwise, what can I say? This book was entertaining, fun, and satisfactory. I would definitely recommend this series to everyone, despite this being a juniors book.

Lovers of dystopian fiction will also get a kick out of this.

I loved reading this book in the series. It was very satisfying, and has an ending that allows the reader to wonder a bit without being frustrating. My only complaint is that the whole basis of the novel lies on, once again, trying to piece together missing information from a document. Maybe some people think it is cute, but I find it a little redundant and unoriginal. However, the tactic is rather crucial to the novel, so I will accept it.
