I requested this on a NetGalley 6 years ago and just now got around to reading it. The story is dark BDSM with non-con type of story so it is best to know that going into it. The book is like but not as compelling as soon of my favorite dark books, which is the reason for the rating. I enjoyed it as a very quick read with some hot scenes.

H WAS A PIECE OF GARBAGE. EXPLOIT AND ABUSE WOMEN WITH NO REMORSE. SACRIFICE GIRLS FOR HIS OWN SATISFACTION. I WOULD CUT HIS DICK OFF AND SHOVE IT DOWN HIS THROAT.

At first I thought female main character was a bit weak, but she was really well developed throughout the series. I had a rough time reading as she was taken and trained as a sex slave. Not for the faint of heart. Jett is a tremendous character.

So I have just finished re reading owned and again I'm feeling broken. I need to hear What is going to happen for Ellie & Kayne!! Can javier help them sort things out? I'm routing for them :) "a certain kind of darkness is needed to see the stars" "not everything is always black and white and some things need to be revealed in there own time" #ilikeyoucollaredbaby if I could give more stars I would ❤️

🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 — for frequency, kink, and description.
I am conflicted! I like my romance dark and erotic. So I was mostly into the vibes this book was putting out. About 3/4 of the way through I started to wonder…. Okay how is our H going to redeem himself? And then the ending happened….
The ending lands in a bit of a cliffy and you have to suspend reality to buy into it. I was honestly surprised by it. The majority of the book honestly reads as a standalone and it’s not until you get to the end that it clearly leads into a series.
My biggest issue with the book was the representation of Mexicans. It was hard to read. The villain in the group is part of a Mexican cartel and the way the main character refers to him seems to put alot of emphasis on the fact that he’s Mexican as opposed to the fact that he’s a gang member. it felt like the link between him being villainous and being Mexican were too close for my liking.

Ellie has always seen Kayne when he comes to the office, finally she decided to see if he’s going to the company party.
Everything is going well and the chemistry is there and Ellie agrees to leave with Kayne. The one thing Ellie doesn’t know is that there is another side to Kane, a darker side.
Kane makes a decision that he knows Ellie won’t like he’s going to own her, but he knows it will save her life, keeping her safe is the only option. Ellie brings out something he’s never felt before and he’s not going to lose that no matter what the cost, even if it means losing her in the end.
While trying to work out what she’s feeling for Kayne, Kayne tries to make Ellie understand that what he’s feeling is real, and everything will be clear soon, what he’s feeling is real.
Kayne wasn’t what Ellie expected she never thought that she would be owned, she keeps getting told to trust Kane, but in the world, she’s been thrown into who can she trust.

1. What do you think of the main characters? Ellie? Kayne?
I liked Ellie. I thought she was sassy with the right amount of spunk. Given the bad situation she seems to be in she continues to resist. I understand that Kayne thought he needed to protect her but I found his over the top love for her unbelievable. And while he needed to play super kinkster with her, I think he could have done a much better job explaining things to her and leading her into the life they were forced to live. I actually liked Jett a lot better and his interactions with Ellie seemed much more believable.
2. Does the abduction element heighten your like/dislike of this book? Why?
I did not either like or dislike the abduction element. It neither a turn-on or a turn-off for me.
3. Which is your favorite scene?
I actually liked the scenes with Jett and Ellie. She was snarky and he was caring.
4. How do you think Ellie's previous attraction to Kayne played into her acceptance of the situation?
Her previous attraction probably helped her accept the situation. It was curious that she learned to care for him when she just thought he was an asshole kidnapper but in the end hated him when she found out that he did what he did to save her and fight bad guys.
5. What are your overall feelings about the book?
Toward the end of the book I was finding the sex scenes boring and the declared love unbelievable. It was becoming obvious that Kayne was going to stop the bad guys, so no suspense there. Ellie's snarkiness and spunk are the only things that saved the book.
6. Are you looking forward to reading the next book in the series?
I'll probably pass.
