Thoughts while reading:
-I read the 3rd book first and definitely see some similarities
-I would think Cas could make some demands or at least demand not to be treated awful by the coaching staff since he took the fall. He’s actually in a position of power
-I can’t believe Cas would even entertain going to a party Benson invited him to, considering what happened last time. And it doesn’t ping your radar he wants you to invite Thor, after saying he holds a grudge and there’s always something in it for him
-I really lose patience when people are so blatantly unsafe with alcohol (not the drugging, that wasn’t his fault)
-for so many smart people in this story, they all fail to miss the completely bloody obvious. I’m only 36% in and Thor has already learned his dad’s plans of his buddy’s research…hello? And no, this doesn’t have to do with me being the reader and having extra info.
-I don’t fully get it. Thor got a roommate in the first place to save money to be independent, but he sure seems to spend a lot on food, etc.
-you’d think Thor would go with his dad’s assumption that Cas is his boyfriend to get the pressure off. Also, I’m surprised his dad was so enthusiastic about it since Cas isn’t from a “good” family and a human.
-why didn’t Cas call Leda and ask her about Thor changing back? Oh, guess it does, but it sure took him long enough
-of course I feel bad for Thor and of course he was traumatized, but he waits 5 days before talking to the police?? He more than gave the bad guy plenty of time to erase his tracks
-Thor is an idiot. He’s taking it personally that Cas said he’ll get himself killed going into the bad guy’s place without police. Newsflash, even huge strong people can get hurt, even the professionals can get hurt and they’re at least trained.
-I still wanted to know more about Thor’s captivity and how he escaped. I kept expecting we learn it…but nope
-umm…suddenly Thor has enough money to put a down payment down for the building? He gave Cas his money back, so where did he get it and what job does he have to keep making payments?
-I thought it was fitting that happened to his dad, but wanted to know if anything changed
-and we never learn if Thor and Leda reconcile?
Good, but felt there were some things missing and maybe too much sex

I could give less of a fuck. I’m so bored and from reviews shit does not get better. Sad, since book 2 is gorgeous.
“Lucy,” I said, all serious. “I think I might be bi.”
She stared at me, expectant. The silence stretched on for a long ass time before she finally squinted and said, “Okay, and?”
I sputtered. “Good grief, isn’t that enough?”
“Oh, sorry,” she said, schooling her face into a look of cartoonish surprise. “Egads! You are a bisexual! We must tell the church.”

“Don’t be so dramatic.”
“That’s rich, coming from the guy who spent forty-eight hours as a hedgehog because he was a little embarrassed.”
——————
During a lull in the conversation, he caught my eye and missed his mouth with his fork, stabbing himself. “Ow,” he said softly, blushing. Yes. I loved him.

June 2023. 3.5 rounded up. I’ve read two novels on Kindle Unlimited by Emmaline Strange recently, both are urban paranormal gay romances with a mystery at the center (world has shifters and vampires most humans don’t know about).
I liked them but they both had some pacing issues. The author struggles to balance the mystery element with the romance element effectively and it effects the flow and tone of the story at times.
The relationships are sweet, there’s lots of humor, the world-building is good, the main characters are likable, steamy scenes are well-done. I’d definitely read more by the author if I can get it from Kindle Unlimited or the library.
They work as standalones but there are return characters so reading in order is preferable.
“A Mighty Quill” by Emmaline Strange. Book 1 in the series “Sanguis et Fauna.”

Beautiful and adorable, that's Thor and Cassian. A romantic and exciting story embedded with a mysterious detective story involving the shifters.
The relationship is a little bit of everything, but I especially like the later part when it comes to the mating bond. This part is very lovely and really a bit unique, not sure if it really is, but I felt it was special.
The banter is perfect, there is plenty to laugh about. Unfortunately there's also a lot to cry about, I'm not sure if the dark part should have been so dark.
In any case, I like Thor and Cas so much, I'd like to cuddle them to death.
Kissing Thor became something I was determined to master. Every time I wrung a new moan or sigh from him, I took my time memorizing how to make it happen again, and again, and again.

The first chapters of this book grabbed me, and I could not stop reading! Cas and Thor were absolutely adorable! The Awkwardness that was Thor was priceless! I loved all of Cas's inner thoughts about Thor and the things going on around them! These two young guys made for perfect opposites attract becoming friends that really cared for each other to a lot of Steamy goodness more! There is family magic and mystery going on in the background, but I will not give you any info on that!! I received an ARC of this book and if you enjoy a romance that spans over time and magic this one is for you!

This was such a sweet and fluffy little romance.
A bi awakening, a socially awkward shifter who can’t shift and a murder mystery targeting the entire fauna community!
Our hero’s are cute little room mates who have an attraction to each other they don’t really understand right away. But they sort of just go with it and when they finally come together (

The quill is mightier than the sword! And without a doubt it was!
it's a story
What I loved the most was their connection, the growth of the relationship, the fact that it was love at first sight, even if it wasn't described as love right away. The way they take care of each other in the most vulnerable moments is adorable.
Cass is everything, he's just perfect, it's just for cooking wonderfully well :), and an incredible help for Thor to be The litle Thunder God he was destined to be. Alpha Thor is just awesome as Top! So bossy but at the same time so protective.
What I didn't like so much, were the plot holes that were left in the story. Thor runs away and appears at the door of the house and in this space we don't know how... The fact that the Detective ignores the fact that there are shifters, why? The passage of time and location are also a bit confusing. The story has immense potential and I would like to know more about this world, we have good opportunities to know through the books that Thor reads, but I needed more.
But overall I really liked it.
