The second book in The Bourbon Boys series, this one dials up the suspense and tension while keeping the right balance between romance, character conflict, and external plot. Lincoln is the widower father of two tween girls who shared an intense moment with Faye on the worst day of both of their lives. Five years later, Faye is burlesque dancer by night to give her a cover for her private investigating by day that requires her to go back to the town she promised never to return to. The reckless behavior is dialed down a notch from the first book (the book always says who is watching the girls when Lincoln is out, for example) and there is less drinking and driving (especially since it’s how the parents apparently died in a car crash from an intoxicated driver).
Graphic: Cursing, Sexual content, Alcohol
Moderate: Violence, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Infidelity, Car accident, Death of parent
I enjoyed this more than the first one, but that’s not all that surprising given that I am a notorious sucker for single parent stories. How could I not love Lark and Lily? They were cute in the first book, but absolutely shined in this one. I love that the girls had so much personality to them. And their inclusion in the epilogue was just the sweetest.
That said, this book, much like the first one in the series, suffered from a pacing issue for me. The middle of the book really started to drag between Faye’s big event that the book was leading up to and the third act conflict where the book tries to tie up the actual case. Like, I’m not one to shy away from some good smut, but I was literally going through all of it asking myself, “Okay, that’s nice and all, but WHAT ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION?!”
I’m not actually sure how I feel about certain parts of the ending, but I am genuinely glad that Faye and Lincoln get to be each other’s family.

Lee Samuels and Megan Wicks were PERFECT for Linc and Faye.
They both captured all the emotions and was chef's kiss!
I don’t even know where to start!! Victoria Wilder makes us fall for another Foxx brother.
Lincoln Foxx is everyone’s new book boyfriend: nerdy wears glasses, loves with his whole soul, will do anything for you, will make bourbon taste even better
The suspense in this book!! The twists!! Everyone get ready for this one cause you’re gonna love it!
