3.5 stars I much prefer the books How to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease and How Not to Die over this book. What I did like about this book is some of the more helpful tips on how to cook certain foods without the added oils, how to look for fresh produce when shopping, and tips to helps someone succeed in the early days of transiting.

This is the book that brought me back to vegetarianism. I found out at the beginning of June that my cholesterol was 234 and I knew that changing the way I eat would lower that level. I am a big believer in the connection between the foods we eat and our health and I just needed a "kickstart" to return me to healthier habits.

The day I learned about my high cholesterol, I purchased the Nook book edition and started reading. The fact that Dr. Barnard guides you through the program day by day is extremely helpful and is like having a friend support you. Two weeks into the plan, my cholesterol dropped to 205 and after completing the full 21 days, I lost 4.5 pounds!

I highly recommend this book to anyone trying to improve their health and is willing to learn about how a vegan lifestyle can be healing.
