I have thoroughly enjoyed each of [a:Kasie West|5027236|Kasie West|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1450586450p2/5027236.jpg]’s books that I have read and this book is no different; she is easily becoming one of my favourite YA standalone contemporary authors. I got a sample of this book off kindle about 3 years ago and fell in love with it straight away, however I just never went out of my way to buy it until I found the audiobook on YouTube. The audiobook was absolute amazing, the voice actor and pacing really enhanced the book; I couldn’t put it down. Is this the most unique book ever? No, it’s your classic poor girl meets rich boy, but it’s the way the books written, the setting and the characters that makes it so loveable and adds an unique twist. I would really recommend ‘The Distance Between Us’ for when you’re looking for a quick standalone contemporary that hits the right shop.

Characters
[a:Kasie West|5027236|Kasie West|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1450586450p2/5027236.jpg] writes such unique and in-depth characters that you can really connect to. I loved both Xander and Caymen so much, they were both so endearing and unique, especially compared to her other book characters. Even the side characters were so different to each other and added to the charm of the novel. I adored Caymens humour, the dry sarcasm kept my smiling and giggling throughout the book. Her humour was even more enhanced by the way Xander bounced off it in such a humourful and caring manner. Xander was so considerate and precious; just the cutest little cinnamon roll. The relationship that formed between the two was so healthy and shows how relationships in YA contemporary should be portrayed, so prompts to Kasie for that.

Setting & Wealth
I really loved the setting of the small beach town with the rich/poor divide and how the doll shop that Caymen’s mother owned, acted as a setting to showcase this. By having it act as a location to illustrate the theme of wealth and class divide, the doll shop acted as more than just a doll shop, it was a looming reminder that money mattered in their town and there was a very prominent and distinctive divide. By Xander and Carmen coming together, despite the differences in their family’s financial statuses, it destroyed the sigma between the two classes, which was present in the novel due to Carmen’s mother’s jaded perception. Overall the concept of money was scattered through the whole novel, and while the stereotypes and negative prenoted connotations where destroyed by the end of the book, I don’t think it added any extra value to the readers life. Generally, I really just loved the purpose behind the doll shop and how I could fully picture it in all its creepy glory.

Ending
I enjoyed the ending, but I wish there was more. I really want to know what happens to her mum, if they reconnect with her grandparents, who Mathew is, if Caymen reaches out to her dad and what the two of them decided to do in terms of their careers. I think the ending was a good way to do an 'open-ended ending' which allows readers to make up what happens with all the above story lines, but I really wish I knew ahhh.

Overall I enjoyed this book so much and it is one of my favourite contemporaries! I think me reading it in one sitting says as much haha. I think the characters were very loveable and there were some intriguing twists and turns that made me want to keep reading/listening. My only problem was with the open-ended ending. However, I loved this book so much and would 100% recommend and read again.

This is a very entertaining book! I really loved reading it!

Caymen is such an amusing character; sarcastic, witty and intelligent. I found bits of myself in her character which is probably why I like the book so much.

Though certain parts of the book deal with serious themes, Kasie West makes it very light but engaging.

One of the best things I liked about this book is that it's not a sappy romance. Their romance was realistic and carefully drawn out.

Yes, Caymen and Xander have chemistry, but their chemistry mainly lies in their unbelievable (according to Caymen) friendship - and later, romance. Caymen and Xander initially connect over their shared hate they harbor towards their respective planned-out futures. Xander is rich and is expected to take over the family business, while Caymen is doomed to be stuck in her mom's doll store.

Though Caymen and Xander are the main characters of the story, the others characters also have plenty of room to develop which is something I appreciated.

All in all, if you're looking for a sweet (not over the top) and absorbing book that'll have you laughing at every page, this is one! I definitely recommend it if you enjoy sarcasm and are into non-cheesy, believable romance!

Toodles!

This book is firmly on the list of my favorites! I am in love with it!

[a:Kasie West|5027236|Kasie West|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1450586450p2/5027236.jpg] is fast turning out to be my favourite author of 'feel good' books. There's something very soothing and comforting about her style of writing.

Caymen is your typical strong protagonist. Her overuse of sarcasm makes me love her even more. Xander is sweet and perfect. I wish more (or any, really) guys were like him. I thought the little career days were so fun and brilliant. There wasn't a dull second in the book. I don't have much else to say, except that after reading two really awesome feel-good [a:Kasie West|5027236|Kasie West|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1450586450p2/5027236.jpg] books, I'm pretty sure she's going to be an auto-buy author for me in the future.

Ps. How pretty is that cover? I love it!

Much better than my other read by Kasie West

4.5 stars - I really loved this one! gave me some Gilmore girls vibes actually. Plus the sarcasm from Camyn was fantastic and Xander was adorable.

3 stars
I enjoyed Caymen very much. I thought her dialog through out the book was very on point and really told the story through a character a who has a dry sense of humor. But the ending seemed a little short handed though.
