Chris Colfer

4.2 AVERAGE

Colfer is just so fun.
Beyond the Kingdoms is a lot like the first book only reversed a little bit. Conner and Alex have to stop the masked man from recruiting an army of literary villains before he takes over the the Land of Stories.
It's fun, but this one was a little too serial in the chapters/stories. There's one point of view character that is so boring until the end. It's still great book/series, just maybe not my favorite.
Cami LOVES the 5th one, so I'm stoked to head on that journey.

I have mix feelings about this book, in my opinion the 2th,3rd,and 4th books aren’t as good as the first one I did really liked how Chris colfer explored the different worlds but we didn’t really spend much time on them ,the book it’s the shortest one of the series and I didn’t really liked that because they only introduce you to the plots for the 5th and final book, the only thing they give you an explanation of ,is about who really is the masked man and that’s it, and a sign of that is that didn’t had a battle at the end

So in conclusion the plot was interesting but we don’t had a solution to any of the problems presented on this book

My 10 year old says she would give it “a million stars”! So that’s something, lol. We did really enjoy this book! I felt like the whole end of the book was working up to the cliffhanger. I don’t like being blindsided by a cliffhanger, but I don’t think having it longer helps, lol. I felt so bad for Red and I think what I’m looking forward to most is seeing how her storyline gets resolved.

Kind of felt like I was dragging myself through this book. The most interesting bit in this book is Alex and A*****’s relationship, but sadly the book didn’t take advantage of that :(

I LOVED this book, it made me want to re-read all the source material, especially The Wonderful Wizard of Oz! Uncle Lloyd should have sent them to The Grapes of Wrath or a Dr Seuss book, I'm not convinced he was quite the reader he was purported to be.

I want more Arthur! Still love Conner & Mother Goose and their humor. I'm a little frustrated that this wasn't really a stand alone story, instead this is clearly a part 1 to a larger narrative. I prefer larger, singular stories in a book, rather than an incomplete narrative in a book.

This book doesn't have a ton of closure, and the only reason for the half star detraction. Otherwise, this book is incredibly entertaining, and I love this book as well as all books in this series.

I recommend this to fans of fantasy, or the series more specifically. This is a quintessential "bookish" read to me - it's a book that reminds me why I love reading so much.

This series is so. much. fun! And of course this one ended on an even bigger cliffhanger than the third! Luckily, the fifth just came out last month. :)

3/5 Stars

"But living without a heart means you cannot feel at all...It may spare you from grief, or loneliness, or misery, or longing, or fear-but you do not enjoy, or laugh, or excite, or love. And one who cannot love is just an object."

Rereading this and I feel like this book and the past book had pretty much been filler books. Maybe? I don't know. I guess I'm realizing why I'm not remembering a lot that happened in the books from the 3rd one on. I did like a few things out of all of this. I loved Alex's growth and her relationship in this book, and I wanted more of it. I just didn't love this one. It was pretty boring. Or not boring, but very stand still. Yeah, they moved between worlds, but it still was very stand still.

The reason why I gave a Grimm Warning a four stars is finally understandable with this book. They don't travel to stories. Beyond the Kingdoms got the glimpse back of the first and even the second book where the twins travel through the land of stories to meet new characters and so on. Now instead of the land of stories, they meet up with the other classic stories such as the Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland. Which is definitely the greater aspect of these books. Not that the third story was bad, it just wasn't it.

I love how everything gets together. The story about their dad, the other stories. Emmerich and Bree, which I totally don't mind being in there. I most of the time hate added characters but the two of them are amazing and Emmerich is definitely plot-twist worthy.

The only shame thing there is, is my poor dear Red Riding Hood, whose life could never be easier. First her love of her life is stolen by a girl much better than her. It's a shame it's true but hey it's Goldilocks.. my dad gave me that nickname sometimes. Second her real love of her life is taken away from her on her wedding.. after he still stayed a frog, probably not the greatest thing for our dear narcistic former and future Queen to happen. Though I have to admit, I prefered him as Charlie myself instead of Froggy, imagine holding hands or even kissing.. does he want a fly or two? I will get the shivers from the idea. I hope Colfer keeps him as human in the end. I would prefer that much more.

And let me say the last thing: I love the small part of Iris in it. Yes I liked how they went to the other world and got there and started enough parts. Also with the restaurant and her daughters and her help for Bree. She is wonderful now and learned a lot.
Brings me also to the Snow Queen and the Sea Witch and how it all points back to the Enchantress and how that worked out.. I almost feel sorry for Ezmia, which I almost also did, so yeah not sure what to think about it.

I should more worry about what to read next.
