the book was pretty awful to begin with but giving it even a two star rating after Roth described chronic pain as a "gift" leaves a bad taste in my mouth
This might come off as harsh but I hardly ever start a book and NOT finish it. But this...this is a mix of bland characters, an agonisingly slow plot and writing that reads like it was ripped straight from a 12 year old's Wattpad page. I'm sorry, but I'm putting it down while quarter way through it because life is too short for books you don't like.
Interesting. There were some very good parts of this story and then there were parts that were predictable and not so enjoyable. I may check out the next book.
I loved the book. If you love TOG and ACORTA, then this book comes close second. The characters are amazing. Was a good page turner.

I loved Cyra, but I feel like she could have been fine without Akos pushing her to working with the renegades if shed decided to on her own. The oracles are overpowered-as we see in book 2, they are changing the plot line way too much to the extent that everything is bound to work out because the oracles are manipulating everything. I liked the complexity of the worldbuilding-the Shotet really want legitimacy but are ruled by a tyrant and the hostility isn't going to end quickly.
