I think it's fair to say that I'll read whatever Thomas comes out with next, and my guess is I'll enjoy it as much as everything else I've read by her.

Her wordsmithing is excellent, and she does a phenomenal job writing characters who are real and easy to root for. They grapple with complicated things that have serious stakes. I particularly like how she writes family dynamics, both at the level of sibling to sibling and then child to parent.

I didn't finish this one. It was just super boring to me. I didn't like Bri and nothing really interesting happend. Idk maybe my expectations were too high after the hate u give.

Angie Thomas has done it again. This woman can singlehandedly be the proof about why we need #ownvoices books. This is her second coming-of-age story. Here we meet Bri who is trying to make a name a name for herself in the music industry outside of her dad's shadow (while simultaneously enjoying the neighborhood celebrity status she has by virtue of being her dad's daughter). We get to see her dreams, trials, and tribulations; meet her support system; and see the vultures that are waiting for their turn to sweep in from the periphery.

The two plots didn't weave together as nicely as I would have liked. I really love how Angie Thomas writes her parents in her stories. They are complex, learning and an important part to her characters' lives.

I love Angie Thomas and how her characters are real people. She writes all her characters with such depth that you feel like you may know them outside of the pages of her novel. This novel exceeds my expectations and was such a joy to read.
