So, this is fine but it's never as "cool" as it should be. Flash Thompson's inner monologue lacks personality and is too repetitive. I'm going to keep reading cause it's a fun concept, but I hope it leans into the wackiness more and finds a style beyond "gritty".

I read this more as a lead up to Spider Island, but ended up enjoying this more than the messy crossover that follows. I don't think I'll end up following this series, but this was a enjoyable entry.

This version of Venom is very interesting to me. Flash has always been a good character through his many changes. Here, its a great change for him and to the character of Venom. The inclusion of Jack O'Lantern as a nemesis is fantastic. Villains are hard to make interesting and its done well here. The relationships Flash has with Betty and Peter are intriguing to keep an eye on. There is some clunky dialogue at times but Remender can be trusted to get that worked out. The problem is the obvious shelf-life of this character given the circumstances he's in. Tony Moore's art is good and dark as it should be for a Venom book. Overall, a decent beginning.

The addition of the tragic hero "Flash" Thompson, who any Spider-fan knows, changes the entire scope of this story. Instead of the brain eating, city smashing Venom we've had in the past. We now have a gritty character study about a damaged man seeking redemption, control of his emotions, and control of a monster that he needs to work with in order to serve his country. The art is gritty and the writing is dark. It's great to see a Venom story that stands on it's own and isn't just page after page of the Symbiote wrecking stuff.

Really good and a little heartbreaking. Flash Thompson uses the Venom symbiote for 48 hour periods to do covert missions for the US government. There’s a lot going on. The treatment of disabled veterans, alcoholism, the ethics of military intervention. It doesn’t go too deep on any of this, because it’s a superhero comic about punching people. But it’s got that little extra that elevates it.

An OK super hero/villain romp with a fresh take on Venom as a character. Fun as a quick read but i don't think i'll be going back for more.

Loving the new take on Venom. Remender hits another one out of the park.

Well, I'm not really familiar with the spider-verse, but this didn't win me over to it at all. Or the writer.
