Loved this unique book about a girl with a strange power... invisibility. How does she deal with such a thing? It's hard! But I loved the journey she takes to get there.
TAGLINE: "Even an invisible girl can't hide forever."
FIRST SENTENCE (Prologue):
"I nearly died the second I was born."
Out of the 8 or so "superhero" books I've read the past 2 years, TRANSPARENT was actually one of the better ones (hint: most of 'em sucked).

Fiona is an invisible girl. In fact, she's never even seen herself. She can't turn her invisibility OFF, which makes her life challenging. But you'll have to read TRANSPARENT to, um, see what I mean.
TRANSPARENT is not a comic book Heroes vs. Villains whirlwind. It's more a tale of dysfunctional vs. "normal" family, and of trying to fit in. "Who can I trust?" is really important in TRANSPARENT.

DETAILS: (no huge spoilers)
The overall WOW! factor in TRANSPARENT was lower than expected, yet it's still a fun YA story. There's definitely more to this invisible girl than meets the eye. I'm rounding this one up from 2.5 to 3 stars, even though it suffered in the logic and awesomeness departments.
BEST STUFF:
++ The beginning of the book really grabbed my interest.
++ The superpowers (and lesser powers) are pretty nifty.
++ A teen character with really evil relatives (instead of just the usual YA useless or absent parents) was a good twist.
CONS:
-- Fiona seems more 13-ish than 16 (but she's had an unusual childhood).
-- Some pretty big plot logic/realism flaws. Ex:
-- The villains
-- The good guys seriously need to toughen up and Many head-scratching moments here.

Which cover do you like best?
PROTAGONIST: Fiona was frustratingly naive, yet I liked her character a lot. It's also neat how she literally. Fiona is often treated like a non-person, a freak, or something to be afraid of. How that would make you feel?

* Will Fiona escape the villains who want to control her?
* Will Fiona ever find her place in the world?
* Why are boys suddenly making eyes at her (so to speak, ha ha)?
* Will she get stuck in remedial classes?
* And perhaps most importantly, what kind of swimsuit looks best on an invisible 16-year old body?
If you want to find out, read TRANSPARENT.

I had some issues with TRANSPARENT, but Natalie Whipple shows talent and imagination here, especially considering this is her first published novel. I plan to read [b:Blindsided|18243852|Blindsided (Transparent, #2)|Natalie Whipple|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1377268985s/18243852.jpg|25692180], the sequel to TRANSPARENT. These characters are interesting, if not super-bright.

READ THIS ONE IF the idea of invisibility or other superpowers interests you, or if you like books about kids trying to fit in. It's also a good fit if you want a YA/juvenile book with paranormal elements and mild teen crushings.
LOOK ELSEWHERE IF you seek an action-packed Good vs Evil nail-biter, or a book where the good guys consistently use their abilities and brains well.
PARENTS: Some innuendos. Teen boys talking trash. Kissing. Meanness and violence (nothing gory). Mild suspense. Safe enough for most readers age 11+ years. Some of the adults in TRANSPARENT are awful role models, but here it becomes an important plot point.

While the premise of the book (something causes mutations of "powers") certainly isn't unique, I really enjoyed Whipple's execution. I enjoyed Fiona as a character and I loved the friends she made. The romance was developed well and the "twist" for lack of a better word played out just right, in my opinion. There were two tropes this skirted the edge of, which I do not like (love triangle including siblings and miscommunication), but both were handled in a deft way that kept them from being the trope I expected (and loathe).
The ending felt a little bit abrupt to me, but I do see this is the first in the series, so I'd be curious to read the next book and see how things play out.

I found the main character pretty annoying. And I can't enjoy a book it I don't like the main character.
I would have to say that of the two stories I recently read of someone who was invisible this one was the better of the two. I wish there was a way to give it 4.5 stars but its so good that I am going to give it five because it is better than a 4, there were a couple of things the protagonist did that were a bit annoying to me but other than that the story was good, the pacing was excellent. This was a really good book. It had science fiction/Fantasy super hero elements as well as a thriller mixed with some relationship teen girl angst stuff that was the weak part of the story for me but might be the strong part for you. Overall I hope more people read this, it was a lot of fun.
Loved the idea of an invisible girl and trying to imagine what that would be like. The other special powers were interesting as well.
I don't know how best to describe this book... I loved it. It was a VERY refreshing change from your stereo-typical I-can-predict-everything-that's-going-to-happen romance/adventure novel. There was only 2 pages of Lead Character Turns Into Annoying And Petty Teenage Girl, and the romance was PERFECT! It wasn't predictable, but it was beautiful. And this book had really great morals, and plot, and characters to boot! In a lot of ways (not story or plot wise) it sort of reminded me of Chaos of the Stars.
Unfortunately, it was also, quite unnecessarily inappropriate for a bit. Lots of innuendos and crude humor. Ugh. WHY?
Full Review to come!
I'm 16, and I recommend this book.

Argh, I hate that I'm getting credit for finishing the book when I didn't, but there it is.
I wanted to like this book. In the beginning, I did. I love the premise of heroes versus villains, something that Renegade X did very well. Unfortunately, the world building in this book was not quite as exciting.
For the first few chapters, I enjoyed the dynamics. Then we have the unnecessary love triangle, because what's a YA book pitched at girls without a girl tripping all over herself over a boy? *sigh* That's when things started to go downhill. Between that, the simplistic dialogue, and the feeling that I want to know what happens yet at the same time, I think I could live without finding out...
I gave up. As a reader, I need to remember to exercise my right to give up on a book.

I enjoy is book but not too much and I haven't read any thing like it but the book do go too slow at point of the book also I doesn't like how Fiona’s whining about how she has no idea what she looks like and that there is no way anyone can ever see her. I think how the book start was great.
