After reading the book, the cover goes great.

I enjoyed it, I felt for all of them. I couldn't imagine having to go through what they did.

I was very pulled into this one and couldn't put it down because I wanted to know what happens.

The one thing that I was not a fan of how it ended. It was just over. I felt like it left stuff undone....

I went back to see if maybe it was a series, but it isn't. I just wanted more from the ending.

I stayed up past midnight to finish this, so I must have really liked it, right?

Love how the story was told from all the female characters in the story. Easy and sometimes very predictable read, but really enjoyed it

I enjoyed Hatvany's Safe With Me more than this one, but this books still pulled at my heartstrings and kept me reading when I really shouldn't have been. Hatvany's writing is so simplistic and easy to read and so very, very addicting. Heart Like Mine was told from three points of view (two in the present, one in the past) and I couldn't help but fall in love with each of these three women as well as all the side characters.

I'm so glad I picked this one up.

I really enjoyed the different voices the author told this story through: a young teen, her recently deceased mother, and her father's new fiancé. Each perspective was so convincingly given, I found myself on that person's "side", but then would change my mind as I read the next viewpoint. My one disappointment with this book was the ending. After dealing so well with such messy emotions, the conclusion was entirely too tidy. That knocked my rating down from a 4 to a 3 1/2.

A very good read about dealing with love, loss, and a past that won't let go. Told from the perspective of three women, novel moves along nicely, filled with honest, realistic characters and believable issues. Kept me reading and didn't disappoint.

I am not a big fan of books written in first person. I'm even less fond of books written from three or four points of view, chapter by chapter. I know Jodi Picout has made a living using this format but I find it chops up a story too much and ruins the flow of a good book.
I wanted to like this book and there were moments when I did slip into the story. The first chapters were promising. This author writes in a smooth and flowing style. The opening chapters on Grace and Ava made you care about these characters. The story faltered with the chapter from Kelli's point of view. Rather than endearing this woman to the reader, she just came across as needy and annoying. This is unfortunate for the central focus of the book, the death of Kelli followed by her backstory, hinges on we the reader caring about her life. Sadly, I felt little remorse at her death. I thought the plot dragged quite a bit in the middle of the book as the children came to terms with their loss and the adults seemed to spend all their time not listening to the needs of each other or the the kids. I'm all for angst in a book. Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns is one of my favorite books and I cried my way through the whole thing. The angst in this book just made it tedious. The father is remote, the grandparents invisible and Grace spends the book making excuses for her childless state. The kids came across as whiny and petulant and hard to like. The ending seemed abrupt but I can understand how leaving the characters in a state of hope for the future was a reasonable resolution to their many issues. I'm giving it 3 stars as this book kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next and kept me reading.

The ending kinda pissed me off. Wanted a few more loose ends tied up. Too convenient as well.

Ok… I had to sit and think about how I was going to do this review. So, let me take this one thing at a time.

Firstly, the cover seems lackluster but it does have a significance with the story. That red sweater means so much and honestly I didn’t even notice it until I started doing this review!

The plot was interesting. It also tugged at my heart strings. There are so many emotional ups and downs in this that you almost need to take a breather to be able to continue reading. But there was something else, the point of view kept changing, which normally I don’t have an issue with, but in this case, the pov would change and so would the tense. All of a sudden you would be in a memory of a person and then in yet another memory further into their past! It could get a bit convoluted and I had to do a few double takes to get my thoughts back to what was going on. Definitely took away from the story, for me. However, I understand the different points of view because there is just TOO much going on for any one person to know everything. Plus the fact that everyone keeps lying to each other doesn’t help, but it is art imitating real life so I just kind of tried to go with it. I did find myself trudging to the end hoping somewhere there was going to be happiness for someone out there! Anyone please!! Just ONE of them! But I’ll talk about the ending in a minute.

As for the characters, each one of them has their own reasons for being who they are. None are perfect, which of course makes them perfect! They all have to learn to grow and trust each other and so much happens to get them to that point! Grace was definitely my favorite! That girl has her stuff together! And then to be thrown into a relationship as a step-mother of two kids! Whew… it would throw anyone for a loop. I normally take the sides of the kids but for some reason I just wanted Grace to come out of this on top.

Now, the ending… after ALL of the drama, the crying and aches and pains that these people go through, I was hoping for something. SOMETHING! I don’t know. It just seemed so … meh to me. It’s not that it isn’t worth the read, exactly… it just felt like you were taken on a roller coaster and just kind of let off without a last hoorah! I hope that makes sense!

I have to say, I did read quite a few Goodreads reviews while trying to wrap my head around doing my own review, and there are quite a few out there and I can see where the people that gave this higher ratings are coming from, all I know though, was this wasn’t for me. BUT don’t let that stop you! The emotional turmoil and characters in this are brilliant and it’s definitely worth reading!
