Gut wrenchingly tragic in it's narration. Immensely beautiful in it's prose. Slow at first but the final hundred pages are riveting. Arguably the best book I've read this year.
i loved how perfectly fleshed out the characters were, each their good and each their bad. the plot though was very very loosely tied for me and it all just felt like a short story collection of what happened in the past and then all of it tied in the last two chapters. i wish we focused more of what happend in the 'future timeline'
Structure. Order. Complete monopoly. It was human history, masquerading as God’s Purpose, revealing herself to an under-age audience.
A disjointed narrative sure; incessant diction but I kind of liked it nonetheless. The lush scape of southern India was home to our main characters, a family displaying the most erratic dynamic yet managing to stick through for lord knows why. Now I would say Rahel and her twin, Estha, had a lot going on in the story but I personally favoured their tragic yet independant mother, Ammu instead. Fascinating would be a close word used to describe how this book is written. Though I'm confused where and what exactly the plot was trying to present?
