As always... Bujold NEVER disappoints. Yet another well woven story with so many levels. Thank you for another great reading experience.

This, more than the others, felt like a less- satisfying episode in Penric's adventures. It started out even more slowly than its predecessors, and while I liked the idea of Penric solving a murder mystery, it never did develop any urgency or stakes.

I also accidentally read these out of order, as this is book 3 chronologically but not by publication date. It would have made more sense had I read it directly following Penric and the Shaman, but it's good to know that the stories continue to improve. I look forward to more.

Good to see more of the shamans. I figured out the mystery before Penric did but still found the permutations of the story compelling. And would love to know what happened next some time.

A solid mystery with Penric and friends. This is one of my favorite fantasy worlds, and Penric’s equanimity (and demon companion) makes him a great sleuth.

Tore rebaselugu, aga ikkagi kõrvalepõige muust, mis parajasti pooleli.
