At seven years old, Kara McIntyre’s world will never be the same, when her parents and two of her siblings are butchered during the Christmas holidays. After her sister Marlie locked her in the attic for safety, she disappeared and to this day Marlie’s fate is unknown. Her other brother Jonas was injured in the attack, but survived. Circumstantial evidence and Kara’s testimony put him away as a convicted murderer. 20 years later, Jonas is unexpectedly released from prison and Kara’s life feels like it’s in a frenzy again. Receiving cryptic messages, the people around her begin to die of horrible deaths. Kara’s life was spared the first time, but will she survive a second attack?

The ending delivered on its promise. I love books that present stories where you know what happened isn’t true, so you inhale every page to get to that “ah ha” moment. I will warn you that this book switches between different characters POV. I didn’t mind it, but that tends to be a con for some readers.

The book is not terrible. Just at time confusing with the jumping narrative and some details that could have been left out. The ending was ok and the twist was ok but there wasn’t enough foreshadowing for it to feel like a real twist.

This book grabbed my attention right away and had me hooked the whole way through.
dark mysterious slow-paced

Too much dialogue and repeating. Couldn't get into it enough to love it.

I wanted to love this book so badly. The idea of the plot is sooo good but I just can’t get on board with the writing style. Too many POVs at play, very repetitive writing, and can’t get to the point. I made it to the last 120 pages and there was no progress in the storyline. No new info towards the mystery at all. It was sooo frustrating. It started off sooo good and then the rest of the book was pointless fluff.

it was a really good read, however the mystery of it kinda disappeared too soon compared to the end and I wish they would’ve kept stuff more a mystery. Overall, a very good, kind of heart wrenching book about a family massacre and the survivor(s).
