How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind: Dealing with Your House's Dirty Little Secrets
Dana K. White
This is my second Dana K. White book and, like the first one, this is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT more practical and life changing that certain other life changing books I know because it is realistic. Oh, so realistic. Realistic in the approaches that will make a difference AND realistic about our (slobs') tendencies.
Thank you, Dana. I feel empowered.
And, my dishes are clean and the floor is swept. Every. Single. Day.
Well, maybe not every day.

If you’ve read her decluttering book already you can freely skip the middle of this one.
I didn’t know about this book until I’d read the other. So for me. This was repetitive.

Although I did really enjoy this book, and it definitely spoke to me as far as her emphasis on routines, I did find her decluttering specific book much more helpful for my particular problems. That being said, I have walked away from this book with a lot of helpful tidbits and things that I am going to try going forward.
This book was a perfect example of the right message finding me at the right time. I don’t think anything she said here was particularly groundbreaking, or even totally new to me. But something about the way she explained it, and the place I am in my life to receive it, was kismet. It just clicked. I know none of these things are new concepts because I find myself repeating them to others or getting ready to write down my key takeaways and I fell a sense of deja vu - I feel like a walking cliche, but I want to caveat every time with “no! but I actually mean it this time!” or “no no, I know these are the same words as everyone else, but when I say it I mean something different!”
Implementing even some of the easiest tips she gives here have changed my home literally overnight. The project mindset, dishes math, visual clutter, container theory, TPAD - all concepts I'd never been able to put into words or conceptualize until now. The way she explained everything was the first time I'd really felt like having someone in my brain addressing the way it actually worked. I felt completely called out, but with so much kindness and empathy.

I was hoping for some little tidbit of information to motivate or inspire but no. Here's the whole book in one sentence: people who have perpetually clean houses clean perpetually and don’t buy and keep tons of unnecessary crap. There. That's it. The first 1/4 of the book is the same thing over and over: wash the dishes. Every day. Then, designate a day for laundry. Don't waste your time on this. I can't believe there was a wait list for it at my library.
I had already read her decluttering book which had much more practical advice for my situation. She has a few chapters on decluttering in this book which helped motivate me to get back to the never ending task of getting rid of our excess stuff.
For this perfectionist with a major Project Brain tendency, this book was gold.
So very needed! She’s real. Listen to this song on audio read by the author. Highly recommend!
