I may have to update this review at a future time. After finishing this second book, I quickly searched for when Book 3 would be released only to find this is a duology. It seems unfinished, and only because of that is it getting 4 stars. If it was the second of three, it would get 5 stars because it's a great middle book leading to what could be an epic conclusion. As a final book, it falls short. There are no resolutions to the conflicts or the relationships in this world. Manu is basically where she started, and so is everyone else. I'm being generous with 4 stars, but I'm really hoping Garber writes a third.

Really nice mixture of spice with hatred.

I enjoyed this YA fantasy sequel to Lobizona as it picks up where the first book left off, with Manu and her friends on the run trying to find a rumored resistance group. What I love about these books: the Argentinian folklore, the found family, the celebration of differences and what it means to be different in a world that is very hostile to anyone considered 'other' or illegal. Full of witches, werewolves, romance, magic and family dynamics. Highly recommended if you want to read something truly unique and special. Great on audio.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an e ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!

The minute Cazadora downloaded on my kindle I started reading. I could barely wait to see what happened after the edge of your seat events of Lobizona. Romina Garber picks up right where we left off and hits the ground running. The human world we saw glimpses of in book one is abandoned, for the Septimus world Manu is fighting to find a place in. I was captivated by the writing and felt like I was experiencing an adrenaline rush from wondering if Manu and her friends could outrun the Cazadores.

Cazadora builds upon the themes laid out in Lobizona. Found family, societal expectations, finding your own identity, and fighting for justice. The ending of this book had me holding back tears and desperately hoping there will be a third book. This fantasy series has a soft space for everyone to land and I cannot speak more highly of it.

I took some time before deciding what to say about this book. Overall. I'm not top sure if it was for me. I enjoyed it, but not enough to want to reread or even continue on with the series.

Really, really waffling between 3 and 4 stars for this one. Probably a 3.5 that just skirts into a 4 for the very impactful ending this book has.

It’s really hard to talk about a second book without reflection on the first. Cazadora expands upon the world of the Septimus in interesting, broader ways… but also in ways where the world building seems to be stretched at the seams a bit. A lot of interesting details never seem to be fully formed, everything is given a cursory glance, and it feels very glossed over. Too many throw away tidbits that never gel completely together. The world almost seems slippery.

The second half of the novel really picks up though, and I appreciate how it’s unflinching. I have read that this will be a duology, and I hope it stays that way. Because a LOT is unresolved, but it feels realistic in ways that the rest of the book often does not.

After Lobizona, the expectations were high for Cazadora. However, this novel fails to meet the expectations- it doesn't even come close honestly. The storytelling is disjointed and the magic system makes little sense. Unfortunately, the characters that readers fall in love with in the first book become archetypical and lack depth, bordering on annoying.

At times, I felt like I was reading an unedited version of the book- that is how unpolished it is. The series is touted as a duology, and to the surprise of readers, the story is not finished and is left open for new editions. I gave my rating a bump because of the important representation it presents for undocumented communities.
