I so love Hardy!

Perfect. I loved the first in this series, and loved this even more. Anyone who thinks romance is one dimensional, read this. So many books pretend that the impact of trauma evaporate when we meet the right person, but here its a process. Also, I loved spending time with Haven and Brody. I wish they hadn't made Haven"s boss such a textbook bitch who preys on other women, but it wasn't enough to cost a star.

Loved this book, but it was...er, a lot steamier than the last one!

This book had the potential to be really good. But I hated Haven half way through it.

So I'm a massive fan of Kleypas' historicals. I love the dept she puts in her stories. The way she adds details in her work, whether that's texan oil drilling or victorian train roads, is always magnificent. Reading her excellent writing in a modern setting was a little bit strange at first but I loved it. Her skills stays the same no matter what time period.
And I like the characters she writes. Well... most of the time.
I just don't get why Kleypas writes this story about a woman thats been in an incredibly abusive relationship for YEARS, and then writes her an alpha love interest that's all gruff and demanding. The scene where he shames he for saying no actually made my blood boil. He literally tries to have sex with her in a public place-knowing how inexpirienced she is- and then gets mad when she says no. Yeah, he apologized but it still made me feel iffy.
I like how Haven stood up for herself but DAMN do I hate the love interest. On his own he is kind of a hot character, but what possessed Kleypas to think that he was the right character to pair Haven with?
Also a love interests that pays of victims of rape?? NAWRRR. Why was that point never resolved? It's briefly mentioned, he feels bad for doing it. BAM. Never mentioned again.

vintage kleypas, had tons of details and relatable vulnerability in the characters. I also like the little details about Texas and it's regionalisms (although I am a yankee, so what do I know) But it was a breezy and lovely read, with the more sensitive plot points handled with care.

I felt so much for Haven. This book made you want to reach in there and comfort her.

I loved Haven the whole time. I am glad she got away from her first marriage. I am glad she got help and realized that it was not her fault in the end.

I think Hardy being the person who helped her the most (next to Gage and Jack) was excellent. From getting to dislike Hardy in the end of Sugar Daddy when he was introduced in this book I knew he would have to do ALOT to win me back over. Helping Haven did that. He was exactly what she needed to help herself.

Learning more about Hardy made me understand why he was so hard to be around.

I loved that we continued to see the Travises in this book. I love that family. I was sad to lose one of them in this book though!

I picked this book from the shelf of a local library and decided to see if it was worth reading.

The first chapter got me hooked because it screamed sexy. And just when you thought, "Well there's the meet-cute (meet-sexy, rather), what now?"...you get hit with an emotional roller coaster. That's where the story is, ultimately. From entering, enduring, and coping with the pain that Haven goes through.

Hardy Cates. Well, what can I say? Great guy. Sexy guy. A man. Delicious, sexy, manly. Yup. If I ever need saving, I'm screaming 'Hardy'. And if I needed a little bit more of something (not in a little way), I'd scream 'Hardy', too. Why not? I went all melt-y.

I think Kleypas did a great job of matching the two. The relationship between them is more of a mutual repair and hashing/rehashing of their pasts. They go through so much, that finding each other is really the only ointment you can apply. (What kind of metaphor was that? Don't ask me.)

I enjoyed reading this. I had to leave the library after reading the first three chapters...so I went ahead and bought the book. Finished it in three days. Could have finished in one, but there's no rush. It's a good read. You'll hate the ones you're supposed to hate, and love the ones that you love (especially Gage).

Hardy Cates? Yes please.

4.5

Blue Eyed Devil is the second book to the Sugar Daddy-Travis series and it is just as good as the first. Because this story revolves around a character that was incredibly developed in the first, you feel extremely connected to the characters. I will say this has a plot point of domestic violence, so be mindful when you read.
