I found the characters and their relationships so flat and 2 dimensional. I wish I had DNFed it.
"For my Em. Don’t wait this long. Come let me love you."
I absolutely LOVED this book. From start to finish i was hooked and couldn’t put it down. My favourite trope is probably childhood friends to strangers to lovers and it was so well executed in this novel. I could FEEL the love they had for each other with just words and that was so powerful. Both main characters were everything and so strong. This book made me so emotional had me crying and laughing a few times. It was everything and more I cannot believe i waited so long to read this.

I read this book in 24 hours! I really enjoyed it. If you like romance but also like there to be deeper meaning to the story this is a great book to read. I loved that we read Jase’s book with Emiline in real time.

A book within a book within a book.
This had an interesting premise and I do enjoy the emotions that Renee Carlino is able to bring forth with her stories, but this one didn't punch as hard as I would've liked for me.
I think it was most likely because the FMC had a boyfriend (who was kinda just there), making it a little harder for me to root for her and the MMC.

The story within this story was pure gold! I was sucked in from page 1. Swear On This Life is about Emi, a writer, who's writing career is a at a stand still. Emi is introduced to debut novel, by a mysterious author, that becomes a sensation. As soon as Emi starts reading, she realizes who the author is, her childhood bff, and he's written HER story. A darker romance - this book covers some heavy topics - abuse, death, poverty, alcoholism, death, and foster care. Renee Carlino is a newish author to me and I'm having a blast reading through her backlog.
Swear on this Life contains a story within a story. Whilst the heroine goes about reclaiming her old love interest, she delves deep into her past with this guy via a book he wrote about them.
The thing is, I liked the metaphorical book more than the real book. Turns out that as kids the couple were really cute, damaged, but inseparable. As grown ups, they're spoiled, self centred and a lot more messed up than when they were kids.
3 stars (only because I loved their childhood so much).
