So I've been in the opposite of a book rut. I have been reading great book after great book. I just finished It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover and I jumped right into this one. So if you liked that book definitely read this one. If you haven't read any of Renee Carlino's book then stop what you're doing and go back and read them all. I've read them all. I didn't think she could top Before We Were Strangers because I think that one is my favorite. But this one comes realllllly close.

This book is about how Emiline discovers that her childhood love has written a book about her and their past. She is infuriated because she is a writer herself and she is struggling to find her voice. As she reads the book she starts to question everything and knows that she has to make some tough decisions about her future.
I loved how we got to discover the book pretty much along with Emilie. I think I like the flashbacks more thank I like the present. Probably because we got to see how their relationship grew. There was just so much history there. It was the sweetest thing. I loved how the book ended too. I just wished there was more to the ending and the epilogue. Just wanted a little more of Emiline and the life she chose. But, I still love it so much. 5 Stars.

Really liked this one. It kinda slowed down at the end, but overall really good.

You motherfucker. That ending was ?? Aaaaa dyinggg. I have to say 1 star solely for the opening word of the book and 1 star for the freaking ending. Wtffffff 2 stars for the story cause tbh it was just that, it was okay but its just that. However, there were times where the wording is justtt bleh ? I mean does anybody say that to anybody? To cliche in my opinion.
Wait what was her name emily? Whatever her name is, i kinda don’t like her character but then at the same time i did like her. But overall, if i ever to talk about this book in details i might not able to finished it so here you go.

I wanted to love this book because I loved “Before We Were Strangers” so much and the childhood friends to lovers trope is my favorite. However, it didn’t live up to my expectations. I expected their reunion to be much more dramatic and for the reveal of what actually happened in the end of the book.
It had so much potential because I love the writing style, but it didn’t live up to what I wanted by any means.

One disappointment was that there wasn’t enough time spent on Jace and Emi once they actually got back together. ALSO, Trevor (the present day boyfriend) was a total waste of space. You never even get remotely interested in their relationship and it feels like a speed bump/red herring for Emi choosing to be with Jace. I find it incredibly hard to believe that it would’ve taken twelve years for Emi to realize that she was meant to be with Jace/find her way back to him.
With all that said I really enjoyed this book and connected with the main characters.

◽️B O O K R E V I E W: Swear on this Life by Renee Carlino
“But if there’s a real heaven here on earth, then there has to be a hell too. Jax and I learned that the hard way.”
Renee Carlino is quickly becoming a favorite author and this is only my second book of hers.
A new book is published by an author named J. Colby and the book is EVERYWHERE. Emiline, an aspiring writer herself, picks it up at the suggestion of her roommate but she very quickly recognizes the story os her own life story.
Emiline’s childhood was a dark one and with details so specific. Emiline has kept her trauma and post close to her chest— not even her long-term boyfriend knows much about it, so she realizes this book had to have been written by her childhood best friend, Jace.
This book is told in two parts— reality and excerpts from the book that teach about Jace and Emilines past— told in the story of the characters of Emerson and Jackson.
I love love love this writing device. I love books ABOUT books anyway, but this was next level. I felt deeply connected to these characters and I just wanted the best for them both.
All in all I gave this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
I did not love this quite as much as my first Carlino book… but it was nearly perfect, to be honest, so it was very hard to follow. ◽️
