Natalie, if you ever get a goodreads, I read this for you.

I needed more clean fiction entertainment recs, so that is why I embarked on this journey.

Side Notes
• The covers to the books are insane and I realize that.
• The author definitely be using that synonyms button on Microsoft Word.
• Main characters' names are as follows: Greta, Astrid, Phineas, and Wyatt (this one's okay, but the other 3 need to chill)
• Fun premise. Once you get past page 30 and accept your fate, the cheesiness becomes fun.
• The intro to this book is literally just the beginning of 7 brides for 7 brothers.

steam: n/a (but they do think about kissing a lot, even when looking for a missing child)

In her latest release, Judy Hedlund takes us to Colorado territory in the early 1860’s. A time when gold mining and stagecoach robberies where common.

This isn’t all that A Cowboy for Keeps has to offer though. It’s a Mail-Order bride story that’s does have some twists. The best thing about it though is that the story is so well written that it draws you in Instantly. In fact I finished this in a night because I couldn’t put it down. Greta and Astrids family life was sad and I’m glad they were able to leave. Especially since it led them to Wyatt. I’m looking forward to seeing more of his siblings in the next book. Especially since Mrs. Hedlund does a great job writing her characters. A great start to a new series, A Cowboy for Keeps will leave you wanting for the second book. I truly hope October gets here soon!

Fans of Judy Hedlund or just Christian Romance in general should check this out. You won’t be disappointed.

The writing just wasn't grabbing me. After two attempts and two DNFs, I think this author just isn't for me.

Marriage of convenience is my favorite trope and there were some really great moments of that tension that I love in this book. Greta kind of drove me nuts for a lot of the book though so I didn’t love her character. Wyatt was a great hero and I really enjoyed his POV. The relationship between Astrid and Greta was sweet but again, Greta’s unwillingness to listen to her wishes went on for too long for me.

Content Notes: Chronic illness, kisses only

Loved this book from Jody Hedlund. Sweet love story with a great premise and amazing characters. They were all easy to love and you wanted what was best for them all. Definitely will continue to read the series. No language, inspirational, and not too steamy.

This is solely “bookstagram made me do it” and I’m so glad! I basically read this in one day, the previous day when I started it I got about 30 pages in. Today I couldn’t stop. I was into the marriage of convenience plot and loved the characters. How Greta, while desperate wasn’t weak and she brought a lot to the table. Wyatt is such a dreamy cowboy. Judd is so sweet! Astrid wasn’t an annoying little girl. The chemistry

Another nice, well thought-out story from Jody Hedlund. The relationship between Wyatt and Greta couldn't have been any sweeter. I always appreciate it when the MCs are given backgrounds and scars from the past to overcome. It adds authenticity to their relationship as the struggle to overcome their insecurities and as they learn to overcome these things together.

However, I became a bit bored with the obvious set up of miscommunication between the two that surely was going to cause trouble later on. Plus some late, nigh unto the end twists (but not really huge twists because they couldn't have been that huge with the amount of pages left and with the HEA that was sure to still come) were a tiny bit exhasperating... like at that late point in the story, there should be more resolution coming rather than conflict. Adding those particular conflicts that late in the story kind of Hallmark-ized the ending and then the HEA was a little rushed. And by the time it came, I wanted more affection between Wyatt and Greta, but that didn't happen and instead the ending was taken by the setting up of the next book in the series.

Oh well. I still mostly enjoyed this book. It has some super sweet moments, plus I thought Jody Hedlund did a great job including the Chrisitan elements. They were perfect, and because of those moments I have added this to my list of favorites despite the elements that bugged me.

A herd of angry mama cows couldn’t keep me away from a book by one of my favorite authors with a COWBOY on the cover! Not only do I have a soft spot for the rugged heroes, but the moment I discovered the marriage of convenience factor, I was fully engrossed in this story!

Greta was exceedingly relatable. Both her strengths and weaknesses were at times uncomfortably familiar to me. Her mama-love for her sister Astrid and her “get-‘er” done work ethic are my favorite of her qualities. Similarly, Wyatt has a tough, hard-working exterior protecting his vulnerability, modesty, and compassionate heart. His quasi-surrogate-father slash fellow seasoned cowhand Judd completes the cast in a heartwarming Sam Elliott way.

Jody Hedlund has proven time and again that she is a brilliant storyteller by delivering vivid settings and authentic characters from any time and anywhere! I highly recommend A Cowboy for Keeps and eagerly anticipate the remaining installments of the Colorado Cowboys series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
