★★★★★ [4.5/5 stars]

The only thing I regretted is that I didn't read this amazing novel earlier. This has a lot of good reviews but I don't know, maybe I just don't want this to end up as being overrated that's why I kept on delaying. And it's my fault that I'm late on discovering this great novel!

What can I say? I loved almost everything about this. I said almost because the only thing I don't particularly liked about this (aside from being so short lol) is the stupidity and naivety of Baili Qingmiao. The first part was full of her brainless self. I admire her character development at the end, though, and it revealed by then why she acted that way.

I loved that every plotholes and illogical events presented at the beginning from the perspective of the books were gradually uncovered by Wenren E (MC). Everything was answered before the novel ends. There's also this war part between the righteous and demonic sect (which was usually shown at every xianxia novels) and there was a clear explanation on why the war was needed every once in a while. Reading that explanation, it didn't occur to me that waging a war like that was significant, especially on the mortal world. That was actually a really good reasoning.

I also freaking adore the relationship between Wenren E and Yin Hanjiang (ML). The sincerity and angst were balanced. It's a slow romance but the transition of their relationship from being master-subordinate to lovers was tender and warm but painful at the same time. As an individual, Wenren E is a demon lord of a demonic sect, ruthless and cold, but he never involved or harmed innocent mortals. He's a really great character. Yin Hanjiang is Wenren E's most loyal subordinate and he actually saw himself as his Venerable's sword, and actually voluntarily acted like one. He was like a puppet who always answers to his Venerable without asking or giving any opinion. And that attitude actually affected his mentality at one point and from their, a lot has happened to him and his relationship with Wenren E. Their development as an individual is amazing, as well as the development of their relationship.

Apart from the MC and ML, my most favorite character is Zhongli Qian. Since I always loved smart characters, he really got my attention. He's actually the smartest and most observant (aside from Shu Yanyan) and you just have to give him few hints in order for him to know the situation. He's a gentleman but he's not overly kind and naive. He's also not hypocrite just like those righteous cultivators. Even Wenren E respected him a lot and Yin Hanjiang even trusted him with the management of the sect. In the sect, he's the most rational and decent person with no underhanded tricks and really has the sense of responsibility. Poor him, because of that, he handled all the stress inside the sect LMAO

I'm telling you, this novel is really worth the read. It deserved to have so many good reviews and ratings. Amazing, from the plot to the characters! It's so great and everything really satisfies me. I highly recommend this novel to literally everyone! Please pick this book up, I'm pretty confident you won't regret spending your time reading this!

At first I was kinda bummed about the lack of the emotional side the story had, it made it hard for me to get attached to the characters, but as the story advances and both Wenren È and Yin Hanjiang open up more and more be between them or with others, you get hit with the story becoming more and more emotional as they themselves learn to feel. The plot is very enjoyable, I always enjoy a good hypocrite being uncovered by the end and I loved that each character had their time to shine.
Love the relationship dynamic between Wenren È and Yin Hanjiang and how they matured as individual people too.

I can't believe I finished this. I'm going to be honest, I was losing hope at the start, but the middle action gripped me and I binged most of it in three days!

Character-wise, this book is on-top. One of my favourite things about this was the many incredible characters, I was basically one of the readers of AR, my daughter grew up, I was so proud of Baili Qingmiao :') (Finally a danmei with some well-written women??? Needed this so bad actually)

One of my absolute favourite things was being whacked in the face with Yin Hanjiang's crazy. When he was talking to himself and putting on the mask to answer I out loud went 'Oh, wait. He's, like, actually crazy.' I loved him, best character ever honestly.

I think for me, the cultivation deep-dive kind of threw me off for a bit, but I learnt a lot!

Hilarious, heartwarming and heartbreaking at times. Loved it, will definitely be a re-read for me sometime in the future!

I enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would - what a great surprise!

(The summary doesn't do it justice - "The self-conscious Devil Venerable brutally interrogated the entire cast of characters from the novel" is completely wrong, and "the very self-aware Demonic Sovereign" is a bit better, but this is not an "interview/interrogate" type of story!

Rather, it's more like: Devil Venerable Wenren E gets a mysterious book that tells the supposed future, centered around the fraut love of the foolish disciple Baili Qingmiao. He sets out to try and understand how things could play out like in the book, while using the foreknowledge it grants in hopes to change his fate... and the fate of his devoted vanguard, Yin Hanjiang.)

This story is both hilarious and moving! While the righteous cultivators feel like they're playing in a xianxia drama, the Demonic cultivators are absolute looney toon villains. Like the in-book readers say, I feel like a proud parent seeing my silly child grow into a promising young adult in Baili Qingmiao lol. And, of course, the relationship of Wenren E and Yin Hanjiang developed so nicely, with too many amazing moments to list!

I was recommended this after loving SVSSS, and I'm so glad I gave it a try!!!

A bit slower than I thought it should be but still enjoyed the heck out of it. I was annoyed with Baili Qing Miao at first but she really grows into her own. The romance is slow burn and does not happen until the last 20% of the book. I was looking for something similar to SVSSS and this filled my cup. I also like that we get access to the OG novel and the new re-edits in the book as a part of the plot haha.

I pictured Yin like a more stoic Luo Binghe the whole time

DID NOT FINISH

(FYI: I did not finish this. I fought myself to up to chapter 38 and by that point I was actively wishing the characters would all go die in a ditch which is a pretty good indicator that I should just nope the fuck out.)

Apart from the summary and “it’s fun, you should read it” recs, I knew nothing about this book and didn’t have expectations when I started reading. It very soon became clear what was going on…and not in a good way.

The previous two Cyan Wings books I’ve read have been e.danglars translations and sadly, this doesn’t hold up to par. It’s painfully obvious the translator isn’t as skilled as e.danglars because I refuse to believe the difference is only due to some massive style change on the author’s part. The proofreading also leaves a lot to be desired: the text is rife with rookie grammar errors, the capitalization is wildly inconsistent, the titles and familiar terms change within paragraphs, and the translation has links and notes (“check what this was named before”) within the text in brackets.

That said. Hm. Basically this is a story of how the book “Abusive Love Affair: You are the only one I will never change” mysteriously plonks on the Devil Venerable’s lap, he goes into seclusion to memorize it, and emerges to change his and his subordinate’s fates. As he makes these changes, the book also changes. But the dudebro story energy is too big to settle and a bit later another book, “The God of Destruction” because, apparently, the plot changed too much and needed another revision.

My frens, I tried. I tried so hard and didn’t get very far and in the end it didn’t matter because by chapter 38, I was Done. It’s hard to say whether this was simply boring or if it’s because of the terrible translation/editing work. I like reading and I’ve forced myself to read things I actively didn’t like but that was for school or work and not for pleasure. I don’t want to get angry reading. And this was getting me into a place where I just wished everyone to fucking die and be done with it.

So. No. Did not finish and now I'm pissed off.

The characters. The characters!! They are just so loveable - I wanted to give Yin Hanjiang a hug, I was amused and charmed by Wenren E's antics, Zhongli Qian is the only one with a brain cell, and the main three female characters, Baili Qingmiao, Shu Yanyan and Qiu Congxue, are written so well. They're women who are allowed to be women: each with idiosyncrasies and flaws, each silly and funny and complex. Gosh, I just love everyone, and I also love the premise and how it all wraps up. My new favourite book by this author.

When reading the summary for this book I was kind of intrigued and it sort of reminded me of the commonly known concept of transmigration. The MC had some knowledge of their world that the other characters didn’t have, and would obviously never obtain. It was a book which had been delivered directly to him and he would use to “improve” certain plot points, a.k.a. change the fate of specific characters and the outcomes of major situations.

What you could call his mini “missions”, were always very entertaining and the commentary left behind by “readers”, made the whole situation so much more humorous and relatable! I loved the overall attitude of our MC Wenren’E, although the demonic sovereign of his sect, he was very just and overall not all that evil. His character was complex and interesting to learn more about.

Our ML was also very intriguing and although he kind of fit into the usual loyal-subordinate-that-would-do-anything-for-his-master, he was very cute and I like the relationship he had with Wenren’E. The resolution to their relationship overall though, was *chef’s kiss*. The book doesn’t contain smut, but what’s hinted at is still very satisfying, and I can’t get enough of the sweet and honest devotion they have for each other.
