Gotta say, I was afraid I would miss Tori, Ezra, Kai, and Aaron, plus all the Crow & Hammer gang too much to enjoy a new series set in the same built world.
Wrong. Quite captivated by bookish little Robin Page -- can totally relate to bookworms (why I love the Lydia Sherrer Lily and Sir Kipling books) -- and as it turns out Zylas the demon is a snarky, sarcastic enjoyment.
I think I'll be fine.

I had so much fun with this book.
Robin does make stupid decisions at times, but it's reasonable because she did not grow up knowing much about the magical world. She knew that she and her parents were part of magical lineages, but her parents had always warned her not to practice magic and to stay away from it altogether. It's not until her parents die and she goes to live with her uncle, that she starts to see magic used in real life. You can forgive her stupidity because she truly does not know how magic works.
Zylas, the demon, is already a favorite of mine. It's very clear that he's smart and calculating. He's also sort of funny, but that's cause he doesn't understand human interactions very well.
I really like their partnership, cause I can see how Robin is terrified of Zylas and I can also see how Zylas thinks that Robin makes stupid decisions.
I don't think this is a spoiler, but I'll put it under the spoiler tag What a great read!
****Great Read, 4 Stars****

I can't wait to continue the series to see how they get out of their current situation and to see what happens next. The ending of this book is not a normal cliffhanger. It ends with a lot a of open and unanswered questions.****Great Read, 4 Stars****

Robin Page, recently lost both of her parents. She moved into her uncle’s home with his wife, stepson and daughter. Her Uncle is the executor of her late parent’ will and hasn’t released their things to her including funds. However, she is more interested in a family heirloom. While looking for it she discovers her Uncle is summoning demons. Robin doesn’t practice magic, neither did her parents… but there is so much Robin doesn’t know.
The tale that unfolds was insanely addictive. I loved the familiarity of the world, but enjoyed the uniqueness of the heroine and our demon. If you are a fan of Dannika Dark and her different series set in the same verse, you will know exactly what I mean.
Robin is timid, although she is trying to be more assertive. She loves to bake and read which is how she ends up in the basement looking for a book and talking to a demon.
Danger, humor, summons, rituals, bonding and bargains. Fair warning, don’t start this late at night, I one-more chaptered myself into the next morning. I regret nothing!
We learn about demons, sorcerers and meet a demon named Zylas (Zuh-yee-las). I loved the interaction between Robin and Zylas. It felt natural and was a mix of fear, discovery and back-and-forth banter. Their chemistry and partnership works.
We see Robin bond, make a friend, deal with betrayal and find acceptance. Before the story ends, we will meet characters from the Claw and Hammer, but not before we battle for our lives.
The Audio….
Cris Dukehart narrates, and it thrilled me to see her taking on this series. I love urban fantasy on audio and Annette Marie’s stories pop in this format. Her characters and action-packed storylines filled with snark, danger and banter are all enhanced by Dukehart’s voices and tone. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer
