Very informative book about death rituals and funerary services around the world. The tone is light and i found the book overall to be accessible. A great entry point into non-fiction, something i'm trying to read more of this year :)

Another cozy read from Caitlin, albeit less personal than her previous one and thus less quippy and funny (it isn’t the point anyway). I especially love her framing of the various rituals around the world, that while they seem gruesome or disrespectful per our modern western standards, the way the dead and their loved ones are so involved every step of the way makes the process much more open and healing.

Fascinating read about the rituals around death around the world.

Interesting to read and reflect about different traditions around death. Really appreciated the author’s insights and challenges.

I listened to the audiobook and it was fantastic. Each chapter was so interesting. I appreciated how respectful of other cultures and customs the author was during her travels. I’d recommend this to anyone comfortable reading and talking about death customs.

I thoroughly enjoyed these chapters on various cultural approaches to grieving and celebrating. I'd re-read this one.

Unfortunately, I am not a part of the majority that is raving about this book. It was extremely disjointed, jumping all over the place and didn’t have a cohesiveness that would make for am enjoyable read. I also didn’t feel as if the subject matter was respected as it should’ve been. For example, in some instances, it would’ve been best not to have humour injected in an otherwise solemn sentence as if trying to make it more “happy”.

Last but not least, I would’ve liked to read of a Muslim burial rite and have more historical context re: the ones in the book.
