This is an engaging police procedural that takes the reader on a wild ride through Boston. I loved the characters and the writing

Thank you to Netgalley, the author (Joanna Schaffhausen), and the publisher (Minotaur Books) for a copy of the book.

Read this if…you are in the mood for a detective novel involving a complex kidnapping and murder.

Six months after the events in book #3, Ellery and Reed are making their long distance relationship work. Ellery has been reinstated to the force and begins working a kidnapping case where the victim is a young teenage girl from a wealthy family. The strangest part? This family has already suffered through a tragedy when their young son and his nanny were murdered a decade prior. The killer was never found. Reed finds this to be too much of a coincidence and investigates the unsolved murders while Ellery frantically tries to find the missing girl before it’s too late.

This is my favorite book in the series so far! It could easily be enjoyed as a stand-alone unlike some of the others. The kidnapping and murder cases drive the plot forward at an intense speed and while Reed and Ellery’s relationship does feature a prominent role in the story, it doesn’t take center stage or slow the narrative down. And then the ending! I’m so glad I already have an ARC of book 5 waiting for me because that cliffhanger has got me so excited to see what happens next!

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️//5

A solid chapter in the series; the mystery starts off slow but has a strong twist at the end. As always, the ending leaves the reader wanting more...

The 4th installment of Joanna Schaffhausen's Ellery Hathaway series has our favorite team mystery solving team (Ellery and Reed) returning to Boston where Ellery has been hired by the BPD and is trying her very hardest to toe the line (for once). What starts as a fun weekend vacation, turns into a mystery a when a girl goes missing from The Common and it becomes clear that there is more to the case than a simple run away teen.

As always, Hathaway is a loose cannon in the very best way and Reed is the ever-stable FBI agent/ knight in shining armor. This particular iteration was interesting because it addressed directly some of the criticisms myself, and many others have had with the main relationship of the series.

Additionally, it's somewhat of a hobby for me to read books set in Boston, and I was suuuuuuuper excited about the small plot point that happened in Roslindale. Roslindale never gets a mention! Awesome!

As always, I would absolutely recommend this series to folks who don't mind a somewhat unlikable narrator and those who are ok with a bit of violence on the page.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I was provided an ARC of this book from Minotaur Books/Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ellery is a survivor. As a teen, she was held captive by a madman and survived. Now a Boston Detective, Ellery aspires to save others as she once was. Reed Markham, an FBI profiler, was the young detective that rescued her. Being a survivor and a rescuer, they developed a closeness that budded into a real relationship.

Together, Reed and Ellery are on the hunt of a kidnapped child named Chloe, hoping to find her before it’s too late. They hurry to find answers to who took the child, as their relationship becomes strained and their lives become more complicated. Ellery struggles to stop thinking of her own kidnapping during this case, but she is also obsessed for another reason – the first child of Chloe’s mom was murdered. Are these two cases related? If so, with the abductor kill again?

Every Waking Hour is the fourth book in Joanna Schaffhausen's Ellery Hathaway series. While reading, I often found myself asking the question “Why am I just now hearing of this series?!” I want to shout it from the rooftops – this is so good! This book can be a standalone, but if the previous books in this series is anything like this one, I would recommend starting at the beginning. It’ll be worth it!

Thank you NETGALLEY, Joanna Schaffhausen, St. Martin's Press and Minotaur Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. ❤️️

Thanks so much to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for letting me read and review this intriguing and great book. This was another exciting and wonderful installment in the Ellery Hathaway series. I stumbled upon one of the earlier books in the series and had to read them all at once and now I'm hooked. I love this series!
This story is about Ellery finally having a more stable job as a detective in Boston after her 6 mo probationary period ended and having a new relationship with Reed. Ellery and Reed have had an unusual and tricky relationship since he rescued her from a serial killer when she was a young teenager to now with her as a rookie detective and him in the FBI and the two trying to make a relationship work.
In this story, Ellery and Reed are on a date with Reed's daughter and they become involved in the case of a missing child and as things go with the story, things come out with their troubled relationship and Ellery realizing things about herself and her life being known as the victim that survived and escaped the serial killer that has shaped her entire life. After her realizations about life and herself, unavoidable and inevitable events occur leading to and through twists and turns that leave you in an intense and stressful situation with a bit of an idea of what might happen in the next book.
I can't wait to read the next installment of the series and see what happens with the next part of the story. If you haven't checked out and read any of these books then you need to read them! Make sure to keep this book on your radar and get up to date on this series now!
