This book was fine. There is a lot going on quickly at points, and a lot of just description at others. A decent book overall, I'm not sure I'm compelled to continue reading the series, at least not right away.

I liked this book! I wanted to know what was happening at the Forge School, and I really felt Rosie's uncertainty in not knowing who she could trust. Her choices were definitely not logical, but they made sense when you consider that she's a 15-year-old girl basically being gaslit by the school. The ending is a real cliffhanger, so I'll be reading the rest of the series for sure!

I wanted to like this more than I did. I loved the concept of this book; a famous art school where the kids are all on camera 12 hours a day where people can watch a live feed and the more viewers they have, the higher their rank. But I feel that the “competition” of it was quickly lost. She makes it past the first round and that’s it. I kinda wanted another round of cuts or something to liven up the idea of the students competing and scheming for viewers.

It felt like this book started in one direction, and then went another. And I’m still a little confused by some of it. The synopsis makes it seam like this book is going to be filled with mind-turning dream sequences. Spoiler: there’s not.

I think that my biggest disappointment was what the big secret was. Or perhaps just how little of an impact it had on the book. It was so slowly revealed that there was really no shocking moments, or edge of your seat excitement.
The characters felt fairly lacking. I didn’t really have a love for Rosie, the main character, although she did have an interesting back story. I also didn’t particularly care for the love interest. It kind of just appeared and didn’t feel like it meant anything. The one character/relationship that really intrigued me was Burnham, but he was sadly underused. I think there is really great potential for his character in the next book based on how the first one ended. Which leads to…

I did really like the ending. I love it when books aren’t all neatly wrapped up, or someone becomes not dead. This book left so many good possibilities for the second book. It could perhaps be more like I expected this one to be.
Despite all the negative comments I’m throwing out there, this was still a good read. I wasn’t dragging my heals while reading, I was eager to keep going in the hopes of being wowed. I think I just over hyped this one in my mind a little too much, leaving me disappointed. That being said I will gladly pick up the sequel when it comes out.

Excerpt from my review I was perfectly captivated by this reality TV show school tale, complete with it's mysterious undercurrents and it's brilliant concept. It held me completely until about 3/4 of the way through, when the ending started to get shaky.

Maybe a little harsh. This is no Birthmarked. And the ending sucked. If this is a trilogy, I don't know what the plan will be to draw out this drivel for more pages. I'm irked because it could have been so much more.

Unimpressed. The ending was better than the rest of the book. Unsure if I will read any more of this series.

Vault of Dreamers was recommended to me by my friend, Jason. And, I'm so glad he recommended it.

In Vault of Dreamers, we meet Rosie Sinclair, a contestant/student at the Forge School. The school is for students of creative arts. It doubles as a reality show where the students get "blip rankings" which translate into cash when they finish school. The catch? The students have required sleep time for 12 hours daily. Rosie skips her sleep pill one day and discovers a world she never dreamed of.

Vault of Dreamers was an interesting dystopian novel with all the tropes required - young woman from a troubled dirt poor family in a place that constantly underestimates her, a love triangle between the poor working-class boy with a heart of gold and the rich too-good-too-be-true boy with skills, and the evil adults only out for themselves. Looking beyond the tropes, it had an amazing scary story that is strangely plausible. Until the technology got involved. It had an incredible ending and had me clamoring to see if there was a second book. (There is.)

Clever and interesting with familiar themes. Can't wait for book 2.

UPDATE:
Okay, so it's been a few days, more like a week actually, and I've thought some more about this book. I don't like it any more than I did when I finished it. I think I like it even less. I didn't connect with this book nor any of the characters. Except one and who knows if he's really alive or not? I've tried to think if there was anything I like about The Vault of Dreams and I came up blank. I tried to like this book, or well, at least I tried to redeem it in my eyes. No luck. I've read some other reviews (without spoiling myself) and many have said it gets better as the series progressed. I might finish this series but I highly doubt it.
