It was kind of funny how the technology is a bit dated - like tracking someone's phone with gps was shocking. I know it is over a decade old at this point, but that is just something everyone knows about now. Still a really fun, quick read

I thought the characters were very well developed and didn't want to stop listening. Coben raises some ethical dilemmas of parenting, medicine, crime, and justice. I feel for parents who lose a child to suicide, or to drugs, or to cancer, or whose child is a victim of bullying at school. Parents will probably always think about what they did wrong, even when they do the best they can.

Captivantă și ușor de citit, o lectură perfectă pentru drum, zic eu. Mai multe pe blog: https://hoatadecarti.wordpress.com/2016/08/15/carte-destine-furate/

Very topical read with regards to the internet and teens. Coben's books are always good for a quick read that isn't too brainless. Pretty predictable but still good.

Wow! I have to read more by this guy!
A teen suicides but one year later his mother realises that he wasn't alone when he died.
Two suburban mum-types are brutally murdered.
A young girl is teased by her teacher, and becomes victim to bullying.
A teenager is becoming involved in pharmaceutical drugs, which his parents discover after putting spyware on his computer. And of course everything is linked.

I’ve read a few Coben books now and I don’t think this is one of his best, I carried on reading because I hate leaving things unfinished but honestly the plot was pretty slow, the ending tying things up felt rushed/messy, and the characters were thoroughly average, which is probably how I’d summarise this book as well.

My first Harlan Coben book, and it was well worth the wait. I listened to the audiobook, and spent much time in parking lots and my own driveway, because I couldn't bear to turn off the car in the middle of a great scene. The story revolves around so many things- parents' relationships with their children, with each other, teen suicide and prescription drug use, and so many other things I can't even put them here. I really enjoyed the fact that as the story went on, my feelings towards the characters changed, and as you grow to know these people better (as the narration is done through the eyes of many of the characters at different points in the story), you understand just how complicated the choices they make and the consequences really are.

The audio was also well done, although I couldn't shake the fact that the narrator sounded exactly like Willem Dafoe to me.

A fine way to spend a Sunday afternoon at the lake. As always when reading Harlan Coben, I thought of Jean Srnecz.
