Hands down one of my favorite books from my childhood. The illustrations, the sense of adventure, and the magic of the story always left me intrigued, even when I no longer believed in Santa Claus.
“At one time most of my friends could hear the bell, but as years passed, it fell silent for all of them. Even Sarah found one Christmas that she could no longer hear it’s sweet sound. Though I’ve grown old, the bell still rings for me as it does for all who truly believe.”
That will forever be one of my favorite last pages of a book.
I’ve owned this book for years, owned and seen the movie a million times, but have never read this.
I had the pleasure of listening to this on audio, narrated by the AMAZING Liam Neeson, while following along. Excellent experience. 10/10 would recommend.
Even though you get more of a story with the movie, the book stands up. It’s a beautiful story about believing in the spirit of Christmas. Just like wishing my Hogwarts letter came on my 11th birthday, I am wishing for the Polar Express to show up on my doorstep on Christmas Eve.
I loved this and will continue to re read this every Christmas.

beautiful beautiful beautiful
the illustrations are stunning and the fact that the movie captures them so perfectly
it’s kinda funny how the movie has all these side quests (the homeless man, the girl driving the train, the three kids sneaking into santa’s factory etc) meanwhile the book gets straight to the point
regardless it’s such a beautiful book and it’s something i’d wanna read to my kids if i have kids
“though i’ve grown old, the bell still rings for me as it does for all who truly believe” <3
read this in front of a (slightly underwhelming) fire in the fireplace :)

not nearly as fun and action packed as the movie, but still a good read
I have no particular interest in Christmas, but I found the illustration astounding.
And just a quick reminder for myself. There are bells who only ring for those who believe. :)
