Olive a grad student at Stanford enters into a fake relationship with Dr Adam Carlsen, the arrogant ass professor. Why you ask? As a far fetched plan to convince her friend to date someone else and to convince the university to release Adam’s grant funds.
And thus the classic fake dating trope unfolds.
This was a fun little book but I did find Olives over thinking annoying and her wild on the spot decision making unrealistic. It was great to see a woman working in STEM represented as someone intelligent and doing great work in her field.
One issue I had was the gaslighting. It has to be my pet hate and I didn’t really think it fit the way Olives character has been built up. Yes she was insecure but she was so feisty it just seemed not quite right that she would be a victim and fall for this.
Other trigger warnings include cancer, sexual assault and mental abuse and some 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ spice (18+ recommendation)
All in all a fun and easy read (or listen in this case).

Well, it was quite good, and fell into several tropes that I really like, including fake dating and real feels. It features demi-sexuality rep, Jewish rep, and Olive discovered a lot about herself and what she really wants in life as the story goes on. There were aspects I thought could be better, but it was fun. Olive was witty and incredibly genre-savvy, and while Adam was pretty one-dimensional, he does grow a fair amount as a character.

I wanted to strangle Olive a few times because she was so oblivious but the also she so cute and adorable.
And Adam. *sigh* now I want a Adam in my life as well. He’s also so cute, but also so other 😏 the perfect combination if you‘d asked me. ☺️

The only thing that annoyed me were the repeated descriptions how small/short/tiny Olivia is and how huge/large/gigantic Adam is. Also the prose is just simple and definitely reads like a fanfic but I still enjoyed my spent time with it.
