I think I just don't like short stories?

Such a surprisingly different and interesting way to write about the difficult life in Ukraine. It was absolutely filled with ironic humor and absurdity. While the words "humor" and "Ukraine" don't seem to fit together at all right now, Reva has given us both a feeling of sadness/devastation and showed us the power of the human spirit to laugh even when things seem to be at their worst. While technically this is a book of short stories, they are linked together by people and place so closely that it reads more like a novel.

Reva weaves tales of fable-like proportions into an amalgamation of a meta-fable, meta-plot. Each can be read independently of the others and yet once read as a whole, it is impossible to not see the interconnectivity that seeps through every sentence, every word. I came away loving the characters, holding them somewhere within my own consciousness and watching them form, play and be. An absolute must read at any point in time and a must read for this point in time we face now.
